FI/ECU question

I've been looking at various posts regarding ECU upgrades that people seem to want, but is it adviseable to run a turbo/SC with the upgrade? NA ECUs advance timing, whereas FI cars don't want that right? Mardigras is running a "G-Force ECU Modified for Normally Asperated Performance", so what allows him to do so?

TIA

If you really want a good complete new ecu, then you gotta go with the haltech e6k, no bade program so you pay more up front, but it will save you a large headache in the end.

Maybe its because mardigras is also using the J&S safegaurd that retards timing on the onset of knock, he can also dial in the amount of retard and adjust knock sensitivity with it.

He has a J&S Safeguard which then pulls timing...best of both worlds.

Ok I figured it was the J&S doing the work. It just seems that since the NA ECU is advancing the timing for more power (and maybe adjusting A/F maps), and the J&S is retarding the timing isn't that almost the same as not having the ECU in the first place? If you have a JWT for an increased redline I see the point, but since the ECU and J&S cancel each other out why have the ECU at all?

I've been reading Z/G35 forums, and there has been a lot of talk about an ECU coming out. I was curious to see if the ECU could be/is worth running with the turbo kits.

Matt uses the gforce to advanced timing for strong midrange power. There are no magic advance your timing boxes for the VQ. This ecu allows him to walk a fine line of ultimate power through as much advance timing as he can run. The stock ecus timing is conservative so advancing it gets back the torque and with the j&s doing its thing he can pull timing according to the level/cylinder that is knocking. I am sure he would like a couple hundred more rpm with a jwt ecu but he already has what he needs to go 117mph in the 1320.

With JWT he'd hit 119 I am willing to bet.

I don't think that Mardigrasmax could even use a JWT ecu with a 7k rpm redline, because he is already overspinning the blower at a lower rpm because his pulley is so small.

HP sells cars
TQ wins races

I dont find its necessary to rev past 6500 to make good power when using FI and/or nitrous, for NA ya gotta do what ya gotta do. IMHO I'm dam near failure point for the stock rods etc. Spinning 500 more rpm to make the same power would be bad IMHO.

I think you all know where I stand on JWT FI ECU's

Halteck would be great, but I would even with Halteck I would never go with out the J&S UltraSafeguard!!!
