In regards with turbocharging the engine, how much power can the tranny handle before exploding?

manual or auto?

auto is really hard to say.....it depends on its condition, driver's driving habit, amount of boost, etc. Seems like now a vb and tranny cooler is a must. I only know one auto tranny max that has over 300whp.

on the other hand, manual tranny can handle more power and it's more reliable.

Woo 300fwhp eh? So who is it, and what are they running?

I wanna beat that with my rebuild

I estimate about 280fwhp right now.. but we'll see!

anyone who can tell you exactly how much a tranny can handle, is my hero.. it depends largely on how it is driven (how often it driven hard on, how you are in shifts (with 5spd), burnouts(auto+5spd), etc.. typically people tend to say 5spd is stronger than auto, although many people have trouble with 5spd too (blowing gears and more) ..

i'd like to see a comparison somehow of vb'd auto vs act'd 5spd (reliability speaking)

Nig says hes run up to 12.5 PSI on his stock 4th Gen engine! He has S-AFC and Boost control and such but that is encouraging!

I was talking about the 5sp tranny in case anyone cares anymore I'm probably looking at running around 7 psi of boost when it all comes down to it. It sounds like I should have no problems using my stock tranny as long as I don't drive it like a maniac.

There are a few autos running more than steve is. Ferhan and i30krab come to mind. They've got built trannies also though. Ferhan should be at about 500whp when all is said and done (according to him) and i30krab was at 450whp last I heard.
