SC CAI question

I read the CAI how-to on maximadriver.com and have a question.

Nowhere in the instructions does it say to remove the windshield washer resiviour....

Do I need to?

OK - then I guess I do need to.

That kind of sucks....the CAI I have now doesn't require that.

Oh well. This is sturdier than my current setup.

Yes. Around here where it doesn't rain all that much it's not much of a problem not having a windshield washer. I imagine up in the NW you would need it quite a bit. You could try relocating it to the open area under the battery tray, now that you've freed up all that space with the manual tranny.

Mine was relocated to the right side of the engine bay. It was stuck in the hole that my N/A CAI pipe used to sit in.

Here is an old pic. Look at the bottom left hand of the pic and you can see it there nudged into the old cai hole:

It rains everyday almost here in Florida so it's needed once in a while.

That's a great idea, Craig. And I just happen to have one of those holes ...

Uh....nothing in your sig has a "Page 3"

The first link only goes to a picture

The 2nd goes to DNE

The 3rd goes to VQ Power, which is 1 page.

You will need to remove the stock one. If you're feeling inventive you can buy a smaller one and stick it in there like me. I can get the part #'s if you require, PM me if interested.

Yeah - that's pretty much my setup now. I want something steel and more permanent.

What I have now is falling apart after about a year.

I've got a lot of space after the 5spd conversion - I guess I'll just find a place to put the resiviour.

If not - it rains in Seattle enough that my windshield is pretty much always clean anyway.

Well - I installed it today.

I used Maximadriver.com's Stahl header pipe and cut it to length.

Unfortunatley, I worked on the car at my friend's house and forgot to bring my Dremel. I already have a hole, but the bottom of it was not cut enough to allow the steel piping to seat properly.

So I got a little inventive and used the rubber accordian section of my old rubber CAI and cut it to fit over the steel piping and the SC on the other end and then tightened it down. Now I can bend my SC CAI pipe whichever direction I want.

And best of all, the Windshield Washer resiviour didn't need to be moved!

No better performance than the all-rubber CAI, but it certainly looks a heck of alot cleaner!

I'll take pics tomorrow or something.

Instead of getting the Stahl pipe can I get the equivalent from the plumbing dept of Home Depot? I remember seeing a posting somewhere about that.

Ian, are you using the same H&R filter as in Cheston's write-up? I have that but I don't have all of the pieces yet.

I used the K&N that I already had with my old CAI. I just used a 3 1/2" silicone coupling and clamped it on to make it fit.

You want to check the CFM flow of the filter you are using. @11psi you need ~410cfm of flow. Call K&N they can give you the info you need based on the measurments of the filter you have. If its too small they can tell you what you need.

Great site! I'm still not sure how you got 411 cfm, though. Seems too low.

Don't you guys think 3" is too small?? My piping is mandrel bent, and is like 4" wide. I am using a huge k&n filter, a little bigger then the one that comes with the PR CAI kits.

The intake on the SC is 3", so as long as you match that it will flow plenty. You're 4" setup would bottleneck at the SC.
