Should i put my stock muffler back on?

Right now i have a 2.5" Ypipe, Straight Pipe, Custom Catback with no resonator, and a N1 canister type muffler...

So you can guess that my car is real loud, you can hear me start my car 2 blocks away when its been sitting over night

Well, since im S/C'd do you think it'll affect my performance or EGT readings at all?

i've changed my exhaust 6 times since i had my car, i think its time to quiet things down, plus i think my neighbors hate it when i take my car out

I am thinking of putting the 2k2 Muffler so I dont lose performance and have a quite exhaust ;-)

You will lose performance, when you up in the ranges of pushing over 9psi, that exhaust backpressure aint going to help even though the stock one has that flap to open up another chamber. Still the fact is that it has chambers and the more the air has to go through these chambers, the more backpressure it has.

I would first add the resonator to the b pipe. That will help in getting rid off some noise.

you will need to modify your 2k muffler by adding an adapter, so it will fit your custom cat-back. Plus, you will suffer a lot of back pressure from stock muffler. For boost cars, you need a straight thru muffler. IMO

hmm, so go with a resonator first huh? How big of a resonator should i get? i was thinking of a 30" one will i suffer power loss with that big of a resonator?

I was thinking of a dynamax super turbo muffler, but nobody has the same reviews about it, some say their's is too loud, some say its quiet.

if you already have a free flow muffler, dont worry too much about the power loss on adding the resonator. It might be a little, but not enough to build up the back pressure.

compare adding a resonator to reduce noise or put the stock muffler back to reduce the noise AND add more back pressure, which one would you prefer?

I riced it out.

with a greddy cat-back and it backfires pretty bad too...esp in the morning when the car's running rich.

was yours backfiring like this?

Yup, my car backfires too, but only when i put on my straight pipe. it back fires more when i downshift for a turn and then gas it, or if i cruise at 80, let off the gas and get back on it.

Im gonna just put my stock muffler on my car for the time being until i have enough money to buy a wsp bpipe with the resonator and a turbo muffler.

i hope my car still back fires with the stock muffler, and the muffler wont blow up with all the back pressure

really? mine back fires like there's no tomorrow. if I get my needle on the boost gauge close to zero and then quickly release the pedal and tap it again. then it backfires....sometimes it's pretty loud and sounds like I am doing a drive-by shooting.

mine didnt back fires at all with stock bpipe and mufller.

i've read in several places that resonators WILL NOT reduce performance..its like adding another straight through muffler. its not baffled so the .00001HP you lose on the disruption of exhaust flow will never be picked up on a dyno, much less noticed.
as for quieting, i have a hacked ypipe, no cat and resonator to a straight through muffler..my opinion is to get a longer straight through muffler (i had a tanabe racing medallion replica, that didnt cut it, even with the silancer) and a biga$$ resonator..it'll still be loud but it wont scare as many small children and animals that way (i used to compare my car with the tanabe to the world coming to an end). good luck with the neighbors..i know i've had my share of complaints

Did you read my post a while back that when i started my car i made little kids cry when they walked by my house? It was just bad timing, plus my friends neighbor hates me when i go over his house, his little daughter is scared of cars now because of me

Wel, i put on my stock muffler, i just needed a quiet ride for the time being, it sounds sorta like a toned down G35/350z now

thats basically how i was, except i have a habit of staying out late, and all my neighbors have little kids..when i had the tanabe they would complain to me every day after i'd come in anywhere between 2am-5am.
i just told them "if you dont like it, you can pay to have it replaced". whatever, my new setup should be good, resonator to a 2k1 muffler.
any power difference with the stock muffler? sound clips?

I usually go out late so my neighbors have to deal with me warming up the loud car etc lol

i have a ypipe, straight pipe, bpipe with no resonator goin to the 2k1 muffler, and its quiet, you dont even need a resonator. It has a very low toned rasp when you floor it, it doesnt sound annoying to me, and it doesnt really sound like a honda either. Say good bye to back firing also, You can hear it out of the muffler if you listen reallllly closely with the radio off

As for power loss, i think i only loss maybe 10hp or so? Its something i'd sacrifice for silence. Or maybe its just phycological that i think i lost power since its quiet now
