problem with 93 max turbo

Well..it just started to do this when i went to drop off someone...

I was going 45+ in 5th gear, all of a sudden rpm drops below 1000 rpm like how the car is at idle..i press gas, nothings happening, no acceleration rpm doesnt move.then my exhaust make a putt sound, twice i think.not like a gurgle putt putt sound..it was one putt sound that was really loud.then my battery, oil and brake light all came on at the same time.then lights went off and car came back alive..(note, car was still running, it didnt shut off), the second time it happened, rpm drops then car dies out...then i started it back up with no problem.it happened again only for 1 second(rpm drops, then runs fine)....after that, it runs fine...nothing else happened....NOTE: first time it happend as described above, it lasted about 5 seconds.

note: i wasnt driving the car hard, i drove regular..i didnt take it to high rpms when shifting..

can anyopne figure out the problem...i was thinking the maf blew but ar was running fine.

Yup. Sounds like a maf. make sure the connecter is tight. And make sure the heating element is not covered with oil(ie.. from a leaky oil turbo compressor seal). It could be that you have a hose that's loose on the intake charge side also.

I couldn't tell 100% sure from your sig pic, but where is your MAF located? On the charged or uncharged side? Sounds like your MAF is going, or something came loose in the intake path after the maf (like a silicone coupler popped loose or a hose). If your MAF is on the charged side, you might want to put it on the non-charged side of the turbo.

wouldnt that mess up my air/fuel tuning and i would have to get it tuned again?
update..drove my car again, problem went away...nothing happened...would it still be necessary to put my MAF on the non charged side?

Would it be possible to put a 300zx turbo maf?? is it a direct bolt on with no modification of the wiring?

no moving the MAF to the non charge side would not mess up the A/R ratio

you have to get your ECU reprogramed for a 90-96 300zx MAF to work but at 250whp your not maxing out your stock maf yet

yes it is a direct bolt in

Leaving you MAF on the charged side is ok, nothing will happen to it.

If you do, however, put it on the non-charged side, the car will stall out on you at times. I, Jay25, and Jesse (my one turbo-VE friend) all had/have the same problems. You would come up to an intersection and either put the car in neutral or press and hold the clutch and the car would just drop RPMs and actually shut off. The problem immediately went away for me when I moved the MAF to the charged side, so it is staying there now....

Good luck with it. It looks great.

If you extended your maf wires, check all the connections. I had the same problem as you for a few days and it was really frustrating. It would come and go. Then I resoldered all connections on the MAF wires where we extended it and the car has been running perfectly ever since.

isnt this stalling you describe do to the use of an open apmasferic blow off valve and wouldnt it be solved by running a recirculation hose or using an AFC with the proper features to eliminate it

I had this problem with me DSM when trying to Blow-off into atmos. I don't think this would matter here, though, because the air was never recirculating to begin with so there is no reason that the computer would detect a lack of air.

Correct. I used a recirc valve and it idled fine. I had the maf on the non-charged side.
