Well how about a flame anyway?

Yes it's possible. But it's not like using one of these old and probably blown out turbos is any cheaper than buying a kit with the PROPER sized turbo/piping etc........

I highly suggest you read more in this section and wait until you understand the content of your questions before posting.

Buying a used turbo will not really offset the cost of a turbo project on a max maybe it would on a I4 car like a civic, eclipse, or neon.

i don't understand why ppl keep insisting gettin used parts from either a volvo to an eclipse and on...it not just slappin on a turbo. isn't the important issue more like the other things: piping, flange, intercooler, and many more things to consider. by the time your set up the down pipe and such you would not want a hand me down used turbo. i think u should construct a turbo set up b4 u consider what turbo to get...its not gonna be cheap.

I can deffinitely vouch for that, I didn't realize how much money all the 'little' stuff costs. Even though I am doing all the fabrication myself and buying all the parts, I am still going to spend a total of over $3000. I hate to say it, but if you want somthing easy, go S/C. Doing exhaust piping is not fast or cheap. If you don't buy a kit, it will prolly take at least 6months of work to peice together your own setup (If you have at least two or three full days a week to work on it). by the time six months has passed, it is worth waiting an extra month to save the money for the right size turbo.

People must not know how much a turbo kits cost. If your gonna spend the $ on building it, you better have the money to make it run well. Just save up. You still have to pay for piping and ****. Custom kits will cost more that the kits currently avalible. Just like everyone else said. You gotta learn man, Better this way.

You can find new T3/T4 Turbos for $500, sourcing an old turbo isn't really worth it, the gains will be minimal since the turbo won't be a good match. Also it more then likely wont bolt to the flange unless its a t3 of course.
