Didn't the rods/pistons get screwed? Are you getting a new set from the mechanic you're selling?

Man I'm sorry to hear this, because you were SOOOOOOOOOoooo close to having a bullet-proof engine to throw TONS of boost at. Then just because of one incompetent mechanic/wantabe engine builder, you're blown out of the water.

I've said it before, at least in my head, that building an engine *RIGHT* is something left to PROFESSIONAL ENGINE BUILDERS. Yeah, anyone with enough time/FSM can slap in new pistons/rods/etc., but all it takes is *ONE* miscalculation or oversight and some VERY expensive parts are trashed. Case in point was a friend of mine owns a repair shop and a customer just finished building a HO Chevy 350, but it seized as soon as it warmed up. So, the customer brought it in to find out WTF happened. They tore it down and found out he used metric piston rings. They had clearance UNTIL the pistons expanded.

Also, if I were in your shoes and you want a RELIABLE, yet still powerful car, withOUT throwing a bunch of MORE money away, I'd just buy a clean low mileage junkyard VQ for what $400 and run your PFI kit at medium boost. With proper timing/fuel control, you can easily run 10-15psi and ~400whp.

That built engine was going to keep costing you once you started putting out the power levels it can handle ANYWAYS like trannys, clutchs, motor mounts, and maybe even axles.

So, I'd say you'd be better off salvaging/recouperating as much from the mechanic jackazz as possible and selling anything left useable to put into getting your I30t back together and with medium boost.

Pistons and rods are fine, but its cheaper and easier for me to just throw in a new motor and sell everything else from my old motor.

IceY, you have a very good point, but I'm set on what I want to do.

That's what I said, I think, or at least meant.

A factory bolted together motor is always going to be more reliable IMO and as long as you don't get carried away with boost, the stock VQ internals can take it.

I say sell the rods/pistons/motor and use the money to drop in a clean low mileage junkyard motor and tune your PFI kit to 8-12psi. No need to dump the car UNLESS you're just sick of looking at it, which I can understand.
