To my knowledge no one is replacing the manifolds at all, I certainly didn't Since you've got to run the turbo off both banks you can't just hang it off the manifold like on an inline 4cyl, you have to run piping from both exhaust streams to a common point and then mount the turbo downstream from that. So the piping we are using just replaces your Ypipe, (though it is a more convoluted shape).

Check out www.fastmaxima.com for lots of pics of people's piping setups.

does anyone sell a turbo y-pipe i guess you can call it separatly? $4500 for a turbo kit is kinda ridiculous if you have an idea of what you're doing.

i dont believe anyone is selling the turbo y-pipe seperately from the kit unless someone is selling their own used one somewhere. anyhow, its not very difficult to make, or have made by a shop. just show some pictures and give your car to the mechanic/welder and they should easily be able to duplicate one for fairly cheap.

i agree for 4k+ these kits are ridiculous for diy people but you have to understand that the whole purpose of buying the kit is to save yourself the hassle of creating your own and any problems that may arise if you mess something up on accident. kits are nice if you have the money, cant afford a lot of down time, or are just too lazy to have one made or to make one yourself - but for people who like to do it themselvels, someone selling these generic pieces could potentially make a good amount of money. if i had a shop i would definetely be producing individual pieces so people could fabricate their own turbo kits, but alas, im just a poor student and the days of owning my own shop lie distant in the future.

just keep your y-pipe, turn it sideways, and then run dual pipes up to the turbo exhaust

I'm working with a guy who is going to help me mass produce turbo Ypipes for Maximas, it should work on 3.5s and 3.0s- catch is you need to use the stock 3.0L non cali spec exhaust manifolds if your going to be turboing a 3.5L.

Manifolds

I'd use the stock manifolds and build the up pipe to the turbo. Check out what I made in this thread:"boosted 89 maxima help" here on this board.
I could duplicate what I did for others if interested. I've got a parts car I can use to mock up the parts to make sure they fit correctly. Just a idea.
