I briefly read up on what the E-manage does. It doesn't allow you to change the injector size, void and blast to anything you want. It says you can only make slight adjustments. It doesn't allow you to adjust timing anywhere and anyway you want on different maps. It doesn't allow for VTC release point (you don't need to worry about that). The Zemulator allows for a speed limiter adjustment along with rev limiter adjustment. You can do anything you want if the ECU is capable of doing it. MAF voltage, so you can swap mass airflow sensors.

Da-max, I agree, if you want to do tuning the right way, you have to get a full standalone or do OEM ECU editing (ZEMulator). Since a full standalone can cost a couple/few thousand dollars AND you start tuning from scratch AND the fact that you use a universal system, that makes the ZEMulator top dog. If it can easily tune 300zx's with over 1000 hp, you know this system is top notch!

the whole basis behind it is having a chip on the ecu (the eprom) which allows you to singurlarly change every variable used in the ecu. it is the same effect as having a standalone system but you use the stock ecu base and stock harness and sensors. the main thing that makes the zemulator great is that it is user friendly and it makes it easy to find and change all the vaiables at will. if you wanted to, you could solder an eprom onto your stock ecu right now and you would be able to do all the same things the zemulator allows, but you would have a tough time locating the code for each of the variables and figuring out which controls what. the benefit is that he has done all the work logging which variables control which functions and put it into a system where all that is required is punching in numbers. if you were to try and do this without his program, it would be difficult to say the least. emanage works in the same way, but seeing as it is a generic product, it does not have the flexability that ashley's program does in terms of how much can be altered.

When the ECU sees something wrong, it will put you in the safety map that you can alter. I believe it functions the same as the stock ECU since it IS your stock ECU. When it senses knock with the stock knock sensor, it will kick in the safety map, which has lower timing.

On some other of the S.A.'s they have knock adjustments (Link, AEM, MoTec). Just curious.

I must say, this is a good step fowad for you guys. I wished this stuff existed back in 97 when I started with my Maxima.

I'm sure it's possible. If a 5th genner wants to step up and send Ash a 5th gen ECU, he will be able to get it working most likely. If you are serious about spending time and money on research and development, like I have, then email Ash and let him know you want to help him. Until then, the 5th gen will probably be after the 4th gen Maxima ZEMulator.

Ash isn't completely sure quite yet. But if he sets his sites on something, he always achieves it. It's my understanding that the 97-99 Maximas have a different ECU that makes it more difficult to alter than the 95-96 ECUs. Ash will need to get his hands on it and then he will be able to get it to work.

It doesn't need to be FI. And you don't have to live in FL. I dealt with Ash for a long time before I moved to FL. I was in Vegas across the nation.

It is my understanding that you CAN advance timing with emanage with the injector harness, but that doing this on our cars with the diodes installed is not possible. Maybe my understanding is incorrect however.

Thanks for the explanation as to how this ZEMulator works, that it actually alters the parameters that are set by the stock ECU. It sounds pretty awesome.

If it helps I would be willing to send him my spare 1998 ECU... not sure if that will be the most helpful thing though since JWT and such can't modify them, and it may be harder/less beneficial to him than getting a 95-96 ecu. I would also be willing to send my 95 ECU, but I would have to make sure that emanage won't react badly to a change from 1995 to 1998 ECU before I did, don't want to cause a problem for myself by assuming that just because my bolt on max ran fine with the 98 ECU, that a car with a modified and spliced harness using Emanage would run fine too...

Does anybody have a 4th gen ECU laying around that they can crack open and take some pictures? Ash needs some pictures to start with. If there is a daughterboard, please remove those screws and lift the board out of the way and take some more pics. The better the pics are, the better Ash will be able to determine what kind of interface he will use to get the ZEMulator working. Then we can go from there.

I understand that the 95/96 ECUs are different than 97-99.5 ECUs. So, pictures of both of these ECUs will help Ash a GREAT deal. Thanks for any help. You can email me at adogg18@hotmail.com if you think you can help me.

Damnit, now I guess I should sell the JWT ECU and nitrous daughterboard....

I can only assume this will work with nitrous. Is there a way to run a NA program, then run a nitrous program at the flick of a switch like the JWT program?

I have got pics of the inside of my old JWT modified 96 ECU, both of JWT's daughterboard and the stock motherboard. A stock 4th gen ECU has no daughterboard, just a single motherboard. I can also take pics of the inside of my 98 ECU, and of my 95 ECU, both of which are stock, if you like. Anything in particular you need me to focus on?

Yes, if you can take pics of all the 4th gen ECUs you have. JWT would be helpful too. When you pop the top panel, take a pic of the entire ECU. It's not a big deal how you focus on different areas. Just make sure you take atleast one good pic of the entire ECU with the panel off. Then, if there is a daughterboard there, lift it out of the way and take another good picture. By good picture, I mean, somewhat high resolution (over 300kb). Ash will be able to just glance at the picture and tell you what kind it is and how it functions. So, there is no particular area to focus on, all I need are some nice pics of the entire ECU.

Slimer, thanks for the offer. I will let you know if Ash wants to get his hands on it. How much do you want to sell it to Ash for?

95maxrider, as a matter of fact, it might be possible on my ECU to have two programs loaded in the ZEMulator, then flip a switch and change programs. But, we are taking this one step at a time. All I know now is that the normal z32 style ZEMulator works just fine in my VE ECU. That means, there is only one program loaded at a time. If you want to change to a nitrous program, you shut the car off and load a new program and start the car again.

Well, if you talk to Ash would you mind asking about a program that would allow me to switch between NA and nitrous programs with a switch instead of having to turn the car off and load a new program? That's the one benefit of the JWT stuff, but if the same can be done with this.....well............damn JWT

If you are serious about being Ash's guinnea pig, then I would just email him. Look on his website. He doesn't have a phone number yet since he just moved back to FL from GA. He left Z1motorsports in GA and took his ZEMulator with him. Just email him and make sure he knows you are from Maxima.org and are interested in helping him out with an ECU.

Very nice! He IS very excited about this. He said he stayed up until 4am the first night he got it to work. AFAIK, emulation has never been done on a VE ECU. But most of the time, if it has an EPROM, it can be emulate. Ash takes a lot of pride in his work and service. His new business ASH-SPEC is going to blow up! Especially being in the 300zx capital of the world... FLORIDA!

That's great! So I guess you've been talking with Ash some?

As far as my update, Ash still has some editing of his ZEMulator software to do before he can officially release the VE and VG ZEMulator for the Maxima. But, Ash is shipping my ECU back to me and I will get it hooked up in my car and he will send me the latest version of the program. Then I will finally be up and running with full control over my ECU.

After getting the chance to data log AF, timing, boost, and EGT this week I am really excited about using this on my 4th gen. I originally was going to get a boost tune from JWT but it is so much more interesting and fun to data log and tune yourself. I hope this guy is able to figure out how to do this with our OBD II ECU's. I am very doubtful, yet hopeful that it will happen.

Correct, the ZEMulator system isn't complete yet for the KA or SR, but now that Ash knows how to do it, all he has to do is edit his program to read the SR ECU maps correctly. It has been in the works for a long time and since he's gone from Z1motorsports, he is able to actually follow his tuning dreams! Z1 was holding him back.

Any word on the progess of this? Any idea of the timeframe of when this might be done? I am trying to figure out on whether to hold on and wait for this or to get a TS with extended rev limit or JWT. I really like where this is going and will probably get this eventually anyway when I go turbo but I have the MEVI and I need my torque back and an extended red line pretty soon.

i would not hold your breath on it considering it may not even be posible to do with the OBDII. i would immagin it will get done eventually but i bet its at a minimum of 6 months and my guess is he has alot of things going on and maxima ecus are probobly not on the top of his list
