300zx Twin Turbo, has it been done?

Some guy in approached me at the gas station wanting to sell me a twin turbo kit he just purchased. I suppose he is selling the car because of divorce, but he said he is confident the kit will work. I have no other information on the kit, I talked to him briefly, but I wanted to ask if anyone has heard of or attempted this? He wants a semi-low price for all of it, and Im kinda eager to try boost on this engine. I've been looking for threads related to it, and I'm posting on TurboMaxima.com as well- just trying to get information. Thanks!

Well anything is possible but I'd be pretty cautious about a kid working at a gas station that had the means to twin turbo kit for a maxima.

I'd SERIOUSLY have to see it to believe it. If he is just selling the two T25s or T28s off the stock 300z TT, that ain't no kit. That's called spare parts.

Loads of money will make anything happen. I've been told that we run into clearance issues with the firewall.

He was at the gas station filling up, he said it was an actual kit purchased but he didn't say from where or give me a brand name. His car didn't come with boost stock I think.

fake lier riceboy at gas station that wants to get your hopes up. i think if there was a twin turbo kit everyone would be talking about it. Unless of course he thinks you have the 3.5 in there then you could run the greddy kit they make for the 350/g35 or somthing. either way that guy is dumb i think

My opinion is that you shouldn't buy forced induction setups that no one has ever heard of from "some guy" you talked to at a gas station, not to mention anything else from people who solicit at the local BP.

If you want to invest the money to try, yea to try this out...go for it...but seems alittle weird to me.

For the first question, I was only going to purchase it if it was legit, or I could find more information about it from the boards, obviously I cannot therefore it is now out of my mind.

Yeah I suppose my name dosen't fit my car, yet when had worked up enough money to buy the turbo kit off of CM.com quite a while back, my engine suffered extreme valve trouble. Enough to where I had to cancel that idea, and I've never completly trusted this engine to boost it...this was just very tempting.

Thanks everyone for your input.

We have some pretty innovative people on the org. The fact that someone hasn't done it by now should tell you something.

You would have to move the engine to the trunk. I think stillen makes an engine to trunk relocation kit.

The twin idea scratch that. You would do a lot better with a single set up and it would be a lot more easy to install. why do you think that twin turbo supra take off the twins and do a single set up? Just for the hell of it.........No. Oh yeah the engine to trunk is on sale now.

I read a car magazine article a long time ago about a custom shop that Nissan gave a Maxima and a 300zxTT to, in order to try an engine swap. Tried to google it, couldn't find it. Anyone else remember it?

My recollection is that they didn't try to take the turbo parts from one car to another, they swapped the entire engine, intake, exhaust manifolds, and so on; and mated it to the stock transmission to get the proper FWD orientation. They had to cut, hack and mange the car to do it.

In the end, the result was very unsatisfactory. They said it drove like crap due to unequal length driveshafts, FWD and lack of LSD.

Perhaps with some suspension and transimission mods the result would have been better.

The message is, it might be fun to have a TT maxima if you can get a 300ZX for free, and don't mind taking a cutting torch to major body and frame parts.

Myself, I'd rather have a Max to drive daily, and keep the 300ZX to drive like a psycho on weekends.

All fwd maximas already have unequal length drive shafts

FWD and lack of LSD.

The 4th gen LSD tranny seems to handle boost very well.

Hey, man, I'm just repeating what the article said. I drive a boosted fwd Max with unequal length drive shafts every day and I am quite happy with it.

I am also willing to accept the idea that a 300ZX with 300 WHP might handle a bit better than my car. I just can't put 3 kids in the back.

This is obviously just another question of enough $$$ could make it work, but what are the chances of putting a TT 300zx engine, in the max, and making it RWD? This way it would handle the power a bit better for a TT engine, comparted to TT'ing the original maxima motor. I know it would be smarter to just put a single turbo on, save a lot of money, and still get great results, but then this way you get RWD, and a unique factor.
