Puzzled By Wastegate

Im in the market right now for a tial 38mm wastegate. Now the thing that confuses me is this whole spring deal. Now i know 1 bar spring can hold up to 14.5 psi, does that mean if i want to push 14 pse that im gonna need the 1 bar spring? Or am I wrong or missing somethig here? Any help is appreciated, and please if you are boosted can you state what mm wastegate you use and what bar spring?

No, basically the spring size - is the maximum boost that would be achieved with no boost controller installed. Also - the spring size is the lowest boost that the boost controller can set as well.

yeah - thats basically what I have. without the boost controller i'd hit between 6.2 6.7 psi. With the boost controller - whatever my boost greedy heart desires.

What he said. Also they do suggest that you run a wastegate spring close to your boost controller setting however. Like don't run 20psi on a 5psi spring, etc, or you might get some issues (don't know the specifics, that just what I've read).

basically, using nealoc's situation, if you had a 5 psi springs and tried running 20 psi using a boost controller there's a chance that you won't reach the 20 psi as the 5 psi spring wouldn't be able to keep the valve closed. this would be due to high pressure in the exhaust overpowering the spring. that's my understanding of it.
