I would buy straight from Jhon at J&S Safeguard. Just tell him what you want and he will deliver. I choose the 350z program, it has two extra programs that you could work with.

Check the 350Z boards for used ones, but I haven't seen any in a long time on the one I visit.

Per John@J&S and his instructions on the website, the differences are:

1)350Z has 4-levels of ignition retard from 5250rpm up(2, 4, 6, 8 degrees)
2)Maxima has 4-levels of ignition retard for N20(0, 2, 4, 6 degrees)

These are just OPTIONs people requested him add, otherwise they work/operate the same. However, the 350Z unit should come with the interface adapter, which if anyone doesn't want, I'll buy it.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I emailed John and he said with the Emanage I should get "no coil simulators". "The coil simulators are resistors inside the unit that simulate the normal load of the coils. Without them, the ECU sets a coil fault code.

You will need to add the resistors externally, at the emanage input."

Im somewhat confused about this. I need a Safeguard that does not have the coil simulators so i can use an Emanage and then at the Emanage I need resistors? I dont think I am going to be using the Emanage Ultimate to advance/retard timing or extend rev-limit so will I be able to use the Safeguard as is? I dont think I understand whats going on with this so If someone can explain that would help me out. Thanks.

I had to add resistors to simulate the load of the coils on the ignition wires from the ECU to the EU inorder to keep from getting a CEL.

Now, the J&S has a load built into its inputs to keep the ECU from throwing the CEL when used by itself. So, depending on where you put the SafeGuard, ie before or after the eManage, you may or may not need to add resistors to keep from getting the CEL.

I believe John has said it is best to put the SafeGuard after the Emanage, so inorder to keep from getting the CEL when the eManage isn't controlling the ignition, you would need to add the resistors to the ignition wires from the ECU to the eManage and you wouldn't want the SafeGuard to have load resistors or you wouldn't need to add large value resistors.

Per his posts on my350Z.com, he changed the SafeGuard units in 8/04 to work with the Emanage BLUE units:

On future 350Z units, I'll change the value of the input load resistors so the emanage can drive the J&S directly, without the need of an added buffer amplifier.

You shouldn't need diodes on the emanage, but leave them on the J&S if it's an earlier unit (pre 8/04).

Unless the emanage has been preset for 350z, you might have to open it up and move the internal switches and jumpers.

ACP tried to make the two units work together, without success. Let me know if you have trouble, and I might make the trip to Burbank after all.

Is this any different with the Emanage Ultimate? Also, any idea if I have to use the Emanage ignition harness if I am only planning to use it to tune A/F ratio with my wideband for now?
