How tight do you adjust your bov???

Just wanted to know how tight everyone adjusts their bov. It seems to have a big effect on the throttle response with the s/c. I am constantly in search of the perfect setting. Is it a bad thing to have air going back out the blower when shifting at low rpm's? It seems like I get a little oil on the inlet when I have it set this way.. I have a blitz

When I had my Greddy Type S, Air back out the blower (compressor surge) happened all the time when driving and shifting in low RPMS...I hated it..

I switched over to the Vortech Unit, Very Large and moves alot of air, and Havent gotten one bit of Compressor surge since I put it on.

Its not a bad thing to have alittle air going back through your blower, I didnt like the sound it gave off......on a Turbo, its bad to have any type of compressor surge, small or large

True. I have been wanting the vortech bov for some time. $ has gone to replace trans, suspension , clutch fly wheel and things like that. Im just trying to get the best response when I put my foot in it and all around. Get them rpms moving as fast as posible to red line. Maybe I am just in denial of the 90 degree days or something. Hey Matty, you gonna make it to the bbq? I hoping to attend Im just getting that feeling ever since I got my stuff installed like its not at its full potential. Just doesn't seem to screem to redline like it should. I guess I need to race my bros sti to reasure myself

Since the BOV is held closed (unless its an HKS SSQ) by intake pressure, then the easiest way to adjust it is:

Bring the engine to its peak vacuum.
Slowly losen BOV until you see the plunger start to open.
Tighten the BOV until the plunger seats.
Then I usually go another full turn (for decel conditions).

This way the BOV is as responsive as possible, but should still hold fine.

where is peak vaccum at? Would that be at idle or at 0 on the boost gauge? I will have to try that. I tightened it up some which seemed to help but I ran my bros sti and I didn't pull away as hard as I have in the past so...

Peak vacuum on a healthy motor should be between about 17-21 in HG

I have found that you can get less surge by having the bov tighter as well. It seems like when tightening it it goes through different stages. Like you can get more surge on a looser setting but if you tighten it it keeps changing backand forth ???

Sounds like something isn't working correctly in your BOV.

I just think it is time to move on to the vortech bov. The blitz and others just don't push enough air from what I have been told. I know my blower makes half a psi at idle speeds

I hope you don't mean your boost guage is showing .5 psi while idling. If so you have some major problems.

LOL. No my boost gauge reads 20hg at idle. My friend hooked up the obdII and said it was reading a half psi at idle. Just meaning the blower creates half psi at idle. Not that I am actually seeing that on the gauges or anything. Come on guys , do I come across as that slow???? Correct me if I am wrong.. On a side note, My new clutchnet was engaging kinda weird. It would let out alittle then pause, then come the rest of the way out and engage. I finally got it adjusted just right !! The trans shop said there might be something wrong with the pressure plate. I was like "oh hell no" I kinda had a feeling it just let out alittle different then the act. rambling...
