Pics of re-worked piping

Had this done a month or so ago and have been meaning to post pics. I have a custom reverse y-pipe set up, similar to the PFI kit. Since day one ground clearance was an issue. Although the piping fit well, where the the down pipe and feed pipe made there 90 degree turn from under the tranny to the engine bay hung too low. The angle of the bends were just hanging there asking to be slammed into a pot hole. Any time the road caused my front end to dip too much I would scrap these bends, and I eventually went over some unfamiliar RR tracks and slammed my the bend in the my feed pipe causing my mounting location to rip away.

I posted these before pics in another thread but here they are again.

What I had done was replace the two 90 degree bends of the feed pipe and down pipe so that they "hugged" the transmission closer, changing the angle of the bends. 3" SS oval piping was used under the tranny for both the down pipe and feed pipe to increase ground clearance. Flex section was shortend and moved back. A 3" cut out was place right after the turbo on the down pipe.

Now I can drive normal most of the time, just having to avoid the major pot holes and very drive way inclines and such. Much, much better.

Any change in pressure from the increased angle in piping?

Nothing too noticeable. Felt like the turbo spooled a little faster since part of the feed pipe I replaced went from 2.5" to 3"

1.5" on Eibachs. It does look low, but I hardly ever scrape. Dips and bumps I used to have to avoid I can drive right over now. It really doesn't effect my driving much at all since I got the work done.

Pretty good. I'll let Mike post his results. Nothing earth-shattering but no disappointment.

It look's nice mike,so you only wrap that small section of the pipe from the bottom, why?Didn't you ceramic coat your pipe already?Does it make any noticable in shift?

My reworked piping is about as good as you can get with a reverse y-pipe set up. The lowest point, where the flex section is/was, is not the biggest concern. The major problem on my old set up was where the feed and down pipes made the bend up to the engine bay. Any time my front end dipped becasue of a pot hole, a dip in the road, or a steep drive the bends would slam into the concrete. I eventually hit them hard enough to rip away my monting location. In the "after" pics it shows how those bends were replaced with a more direct angle.

The more rear part of the exhaust is not as much of a concern. But I improved that by going with oval piping giving me about another 3/4" clearance. The only issue I have with the rear part of the exhaust would be situations like very large speed bump where he height of the speed bump is greater than my ground clearance. But taking those at angle pretty much takes care of that.

But I already stated all of this....

gotcha, im sorry didnt mean to disregard what you had said earlier - i was just curious if that was the best possible fitment for turbo piping since it seems so low. good job on reworking them tho

You still having issues with boiling the tranny? Is that ceramic and header wrapped or just wrap?

It turned out my clutch/tranny problems was due to engagement issue. Some how I had the cruise control switch pressing the clutch down and not letting it release properly. Bled the master cylinder and adjust the clutch and it has been fine since.

I had the pipes "ceramic" coated, but I think what I got was some sort of knock off ceramic coating. Not the real thing. Don't think it really does anything. I have them wrapped on top of that.

sorry to be OT but what is a 3in cutout and what does it do? is that what is shown in post #2 first and second pic? is the 3rd pipe next to the downpipe related to the cutout?

The little pipe is the wastegate dump. A cutout is just a thing you can open on your exhaust so the exhaust goes out of it instead of through your entire exhaust system. You can see it in the first 2 pics on his second post.

That is so low. My altima is so high that I have to pump the jack a couple of times and then it will touch the car. For my cousin/dads/grandpas's cars we have to lift one side so we can slide the jack in there and it will barely clear.
