anybody played with E-85 yet?
anybody played with E-85 yet?
I was just wondering if anuone has played with e-85 (105 octane), yet? I have done some reading on it and understand that it can have some adverse effects on cars that have non-compatible hoses, orings and aluminum fuel lines. Just wondering if anyine has messed with it?
heres a site with lots of info on ethanol and e-85.

Here is a post i found that really explains ethanol better than I can.
"Fuel burn with alky is 2x what it is with gas. So you need a 2x larger fuel tank to get the same run time. Alky is "dry" so you will need a 20:1 oil mix. The carb may need to be rejeted to allow enough fuel. Idle may get a little vibratie because of advanced timing.
Good news is more power and a simpler lighter engine, so AFTER you burn down the fuel load you plane will be lighter for landing. "

uh well to be more ..... helpful than just posting a refference to another post. e85 is some what corrosive to gaskets etc.... so you have to modify them or the alcohol will eat through them causing.... bad things to happen. generally 2000+ model american cars can use it with no modifications (ask the dealer first) and it does give you about 25% less mpg. in the long run they cost a bout the same over the course of a year to run if you drive around 15000 or so miles a year, more gasoline is cheaper. the newspaper in fargo did a comparison to it because all the government officials (like just figure people, the auditor, assistant governer etc...) were all driving like suburbans and stuff.
There are a few people on the net that have tested this stuff out and haven't had any problems with gaskets corroding. A good article is here http://www.turbomustangs.com/techarticles/e85dyno.php
The last time I checked, the stuff was only like 30 cents cheaper than premium. As soon as E85 becomes more popular, I'm sure the price will drop. If you have tuning software though, alot more power (for the price) could be had from this as opposed to premium fuel or race gas

exactly the main advantage is its 105oct for less than the price of 87oct and you can pump it directly into the tank as opposed to having to fill a gas can
you really have to be boosted to justify the switch but it opens alot of doors once you do
the only thing thats really holding me back is there just arnt enough gas stations thats have it
