Look at this shaft...wtf

input shaft of a v1 w/ 3.125 pulley



The story behind it, it was rebuilt a year ago, and installed on his car of February this year, he put 14k miles on it, and the other night we took it off and found how fcked up the pulley and shaft were

And a new keyway, i.e. new shaft. Looks like time for a rebuild.

So........what happened?

He puts over 95k miles (when new) until it needs its 1st rebuild
Gets it back, and puts 14k on it and this crap?

Was the pulley bolt not tight enough?

I think I was looking at it wrong. Is the key still in the slot? If so, it's not as bad as I thought. He just needs a new key is all.

The key isnt in the slot,

look how it goes from the edge of the shaft....and it gets wa larger - like a piece of the key broke off...and was moving back and forth creating wayyy too much friction, and ate the inside of where the key goes in the groove...

it needs a whole new shaft we think because something isnt balanced internally...

Okay, so I was right the first time and the keyway is smeared. Yeah, new shaft needed.

I wonder why it did that. Did he do hard downshifts? Normal acceleration, even WOT, won't develop enough torque at the blower shaft to smear a keyway, but a sudden jolt from downshifting and popping the clutch might.

play between the key/shaft/pulley, maybe the pulley bolt was not tight enough?
I see that at the dealership when Jim-Bob does his t-belt under the shadetree.
