Is their SC programs as conservative with timming and A/F as the turbo program?

im still tuning it in i only drove it like 20 miles so far...I also have alot of +s over a boosted 3.0, cams/3.2ltr/3.5 heads/titanium valves/ported heads.

of course, I am sure it makes more power than the standard turbo VQ30. My only point was the power that 12psi has been known to make in a maxima is not the same if your running a JWT ECU.

I'm guessing you mean that JWT timing is overly conservative for all-out power.

Basically, I get about 20hp per 1lb of boost on the stock ECU (stock timing) and 15hp per 1lb of boost on the JWT. It is not a necessarily a bad thing, it just takes more boot to make power. It certainly can be a problem for those trying to run big numbers and become the limiting factor. But in my case all I want is 350-370 whp on a daily basis so the JWT still works OK.

My car aint hitting rain but it would probably spin 5th its seems like a very torquey setup.

Not trying to toss a you-know-what in the punchbowl, but I got 365 whp at 12.2 psi with the FI JWT program, and that was supercharged, too (meaning I probably had about 20-30 hp loss from driving the blower, on top of the normal drivetrain loss). So maybe 390 whp if I was using excess enthalpy left over after combustion to drive the blower.

I know you don't "cheat" Stephen...just making sure Mike doesn't use SAE CF especially at altitude.

I know this and it has confused me as to why SC guys with the JWT program don't seem to be down much, if at all, on power. Maybe they are not the same program but I gotta think they are.

But myself and Mardi can both attest to the conservative tune with the JWT ECU and how it effects power. I have not really talked with Tilley about it, but it was obvious from his trap speed and his boost level that he was not making as much power as one would think.

Here is another example. I traped 111mph on the stock ECU and 9ish psi. Put the JWT ECU in the same night at the track with no other changes and couldn't trap over 105mph. That is a big power difference.

With that said, I am still gonna most likely run the JWT ECU as my final set up. After much deliberating I am just gonna turn up the boost and run 13-14psi on the JWT ECU and call it a day. It's safe and the AFR's are good.

There is a very slight difference between no correction and SAE, on the order of less than 10whp IIRC

I like the setup however, I don't see very much cooling going on with that big *** I/C in the way along with a very warm radiator behind it. Are you running some sort of modified hood to help eliviate some of that heat ? I was thinking of going with this setup for my own hood.

Along with the spacer mod for the hood mounts should be plenty without over doing it. I did the same mod to my buddies Z and we lost 15 degrees in the spacer mod alone.

Spinning an overdrive gear in the rain has to be scary.

BTW, does anyone know the difference between stock timing and JWT timing? It can't be all that much.

It's not really scary there's no reason for me to floor it in the rain so I don't, also it's no different than flooring your car on an icy road and spinning them in 5th, you're in canada so I assume you've done this just like I used to do. Nothing happens other than you make a ton of noise.

Do not make the mistake of underestimating JWT's retardation (pun not intended). Mardi's JWT ECU ran a flat 10 degrees of advance at WOT... stock is as much as 24 degrees of advance (it depends where you are in the powerband though, it can be lower). VeeQue's JWT N/A program hit 34 degrees of advance, eng92's custom TS program hit 33 degrees of advance. It's retarded too much at least in some cases (Mike losing 6mph consistently and needing 4lbs of boost to make up for the timing).

I haven't driven the car in the winter yet. Remember when I told you I had blown an axle and my differencial? Well, it's staying parked in the snow till March. No road salt at least.

Have you ever heard of more than 34 degrees advance on a VQ35?

Isn't 10 degrees bad-knock-sensor territory?

Perhaps Mike should try a 1/4 mile pass with his KS disconnected. Maybe he'd trap around the same as he did with JWT ecu.

Tilley took me out for spin last nite. OMG....at times, I felt like i was fearing for my life He can just spin the tires easily in 3rd or 4th gear w/ 19's on. That car is crazy. Faster then his gf's car. I can't wait to see it on the track and after it gets on the dyno and some tuning.

Yeah, when he took me for a ride before it was a 3.2, but still turbo, I pretty much was grabbing the 'oh ****' handles and also fearing for my life. Very scary from the passenger seat.

Tilley- I would think you should get 2 step colder plugs and gap them closer at like .036....or is it .36.....

That is all I was worried about of course now that I know you're running a bigger radiator that takes care of a whole lot. But you still have un answered heating questions. Like those new turbo manifolds of yours,do you plan on wrapping or coating them to help shave some heat ? Some kinda of hood mod to help shave heat even more. I don't know if you're looking for the sleeper or stock hood but I'd be trimming heat every place I could. Exspecially since our engine bays are tight as it is we can use all the heat trimming help we can get. Hell, I'm using every cheap/free power trick in the book and my motor runs nearly cold. KEEP THAT INTAKE CHARGE COLD !!!!
