Rebuild Vortex SC

How many have had to rebuild and had to do the complete rebuild, due to cold start up (according to Vortex)

I had a complete V2 rebuild with a aftermarket BOV and it was blamed on cold starts and starving the sc of oil. (I really don't think so)

If you have a V1 I would go for a V1 T-trim upgrade. Thats what I had and it was definately stronger than the S-trim. A V2 cannot be upgraded to anything stronger.

So anytime I start my car up in the morning, I'm damaging my supercharger?

Thats what they say...but I have a different though. I will let you know as soon as I see what most have experienced to see if it confirms my thoughts.

What would the bov have to do with startup, and it being cold out ?? Ive started my car many a times in almost sub-zero temps with my vortech bov and no problems. The oil makes it there, just as fast as the top of the motor. I dont see it being a problem

I think he is trying to figure out if the SCs are needing to be rebuilt because of oil starvation due to low tempuratures (Vortech's theory) or because of compressor surge due to too tight aftermarket BOVs (LatinMax's and the org's theory).

I would definitely go with the BOV theory unless their is proof of some kind of oil starvation problem.

Ive heard alot of guys having surge problems, like myself, and I dont think that would cause any kind of break down to the blower

I had to get Vortech to redo the bearings only because I overtightened the drive belt because it was squealling too much during the cold weather. I've always let it warm up a bit before driving off whenever possible. For those times I'm late for work I'll drive off but I won't dare go over 2500 rpm until the engine is warmed up.

Btw, what brand oil are you using?

the option I went with isnt available. I went from a V1 S-trim to a V1 T-trim.

-yes it will make more boost with the same pulley
-yes more torque
-yes its loud as all he11
-is it worth it? yes if you are looking for the most power from a SC'ed car

Thats all I can offer for now.

I need to rebuild. I'm leaking a lot of oil (1 full quart every 3k), probably from a bunch of places, but definately from the underside of the supercharger unit. BTW, I'm running Mobil1 10w30 synthetic.

Sounds like you need a new rubber gasket or maybe the screws need to be retightened? The gasket is easy to change but I've no idea if Vortech will sell it separarately.

Here's my V2:

I am not asking about oil but weather you are after market BOV or the regular recirculating valve.
Please vote also.
Thanks.

What up Gabe, how has the car been? Did you ever resolve the tunning issues? If so what did it end up putting down on the dyno?
