Yeah unfortunately on the 4th gen it won't work because the ECU is such a dog. On faster ECU's though it wouldn't be a problem. The scan tool itself even has problems staying connected sometimes (well the older version anyways, haven't tried the new one yet).
Wonder if the 2000 is the same or when did they upgrade the speed.

Oh sheesh I'm sorry - yeah that would work too. Got so taken up with ROM stuff I completely forgot about the first page and how this thread started..

Jim I think everything switched in 2000.. when they went to the Consult II. Watching the scanner today the 2000 is definitely a faster reporting ECU than the 4th gen.

Jim just an update... I loaded your bin file using the ADR supplied by Alex... nothing matches. It's all gibberish as I suspected.. when I get a chance later I'll browse through with RomScan and see if I can find the addresses for the maps.

Sorry Mike, guess we've kind of jacked your thread a bit (although it is somewhat related).

Don't worry about me. If something good can come of this it's much more important than anything I have posted lately.

I just ask because I was seeing 24 degrees from 6+ and I was running with no knock sensor. Just a resistor to trick it. I don't remember the ohmage but it seems to be spot on. Before my knock sensor died I was getting 27 degrees at redline. I was just wondering why you seem to be pulling timing.

What kind of maf are you running? Can you provide the maf voltage along with the other data? I'll take a look at that binfile when I get home. There is another timing map that is being used as well. The map that alex posted isn't entirely responsible for the final advance.

Mike,

Very interesting...

I'd like to see you do the same, but with some 100-octane or better fuel. I'm wondering if you're not getting detonation especially around your torque peak where your timing drops.

that drop in timing is normal. Follows the same curve others have posted. There is a thread in the all motor forum with a 4th gen timing log from a basically stock 4th gen maxima.

I looked at the knock map and all looks good. It's amazing how little timing this engine needs.

Alex-Angarsk,
Thanks for posting the timing graph, very good information! Can you explain to me how to read the pressure values on the bottom though? Is it measured in PSI or KPA or something else?

Thanks,
allen

I've got Alex's timing chart made into an excel spreadsheat, it's a little easier to read if anyone can show me how to attach it.

Still need to know how to read the pressure values on the bottom though.
