Should i get turbo or SC for my 5th gen auto?
Should i get turbo or SC for my 5th gen auto?
Ive been thinking for a while in getting FI, just not sure if I should go with SC or turbo. Right now i have a injen intake, y pipe, tsudo catback w/ obx muffler, underdrive pulley, ground wires, and safc 2 for performance mods. Considering price, hp gain, reliability, ease of install, which is better supercharger or turbo? I'd also like to know that if i do decide to get FI, what other mods would I need to get along with the basic SC kit or turbo kit? Any input would be well appriciated. Thanks
You know honostly, in the beginning a supercharger is amazing because its new power. After a while though, you meet someone with a turbocharged car that is making horrindous power, and you want it. Then you have to change your entire setup, because there is no way your going to stay on your first setup.
Boost is addicitive, and with that said the wiser thing to do would be to design a turbocharger setup while its early, before your upgrading your pulley wishing you would have gone the right way.

It is pretty hard to keep an auto holding with high boost SC. People have done it, but you are going to have to go easy on it and take some precautions.
Turbo = 5spd swap VERY soon. Think weeks at most.
SC is not the "wrong" way. People are making plenty of power and running great times with them. They are not quite as effecient as a turbo, but it is a nice setup that has a lot of potential. It all depends on what you want. SC would be less custom work, and a more reliable, simpler setup. It is not going to get over 400whp without some significant work, but not everyone wants that.
It is a relatively common thing for SCs to want to get more power and go turbo once they hit a plateau, but that goes for turboed cars when they start needing a built engine. Research and think about what you want. From what it sounds you would be a better SC candidate since you are not looking to push envelopes anytime soon. There is plenty of information, comparision, and FAQs about this sort of thing.
Fuel setup, and tuning equipment are crucial at higher boost/power levels.
