S/C FMIC installed today

well i finally got my intercooler in the mail earlier today.. it is 30.5x3x12 over all the install really wasnt too hard to do, mainly just trying to get the front bumper off and removing the front bumper support bar. I havent had time to take it out for a test run but everything started right up and ran perfectly, and after a few hours of work, here is my result

Is 30.5" the core width or the overall width? Looks pretty nice, hope you don't have so much of a pressure drop that it offsets the increased cooling ability.

yes, 30.5 is the overall width, its like 29 for the core and then with the ends its 30.5 once i have a chance later to go out and do a few runs ill see if there is any real noticeable drop in pressure

So you were running piping down there prior to that? I take it you did that to make installing the intercooler easier when you got it?

StephenMax actually installed the piping down through my front bumper a couple months ago, you can leave the straight piping if you wanted to, or you could install a front mount like i did, Stephen used to run the exact same pipe setup as i was running and then he got an intercoolor also

Doesn't look like there's a whole lot of room for the fogs

There's some space, I see, but they are probably too deep and would hit the piping.

Why not cover the fog area? My altima has fog light covers because it didn't come with fog lights. If you were to do that nobody would thing you have a turbo.

97+ Maximas don't have foglight covers, just a little "bar" that goes across the middle similar to the grill. Even if you covered that up, you can still see the FMIC plain as day.

Oh, and, he's supercharged...not turbo'd.

i bought a universal kit that came with my intercooler which i will be selling here sometime in the next week or so, but the rest of the piping is 3in and Stephen Max had put that together for me a couple months ago, i just had to change the middle pipes a little bit to fit the intercooler and get it centered where i wanted it

yes you have to remove the front bumper support in order to make room for the intercooler, i took a look at trying to go behind the support bar but there just wasnt enough room to squeeze it in right there without removing the bar

this thread is useless w/o measured boost loss... We need before and after readings por favor.
Looks great though. Congrats.

You wouldn't have a dual intake temperature gauge would you?? Temperature delta's would be nice too! Now get going, we need results you tease.

Looks good. Nice job. I don't like that you had to remove the front bumper though - for both your safety and the car/engine's safety. I don't suppose you have an air intake temp. gauge? I would love to know the air intake temp. with an air to air. With my water to air, my intake temps are reduced by 40-50^F at peak boost. And about 10-20 just driving around "unspirited". I have no frame of reference, so I don't even know if that is good or not. ? I'm very interested to know what temp. reductions are acquired with an air to air. Do you have a boost gauge? How much boost did you lose through the IC? With my aftercooler, I lost about 1.5 to 2 PSI (peak). I can't tell if you opened up that little area in the bumper cover above the large opening/below the grill (the place where the front license plate would mount) but you might want to, to increase the exposed surface area of the FMIC. Enjoy!

We can get smaller intercoolers that enable us to leave the fogs in AND keep our bumper supports though. Right? Has anyone done that? Like a 20 X 6 X 3" outlet/inlet?

Stephen did the pipe work, intercooler install was done by me yesterday.. i finally went out and did a few runs on my way to and from class earlier and was seeing about 8 PSI when i usually see about 10PSI, so i would say overall that I lost about 1.5 to 2 PSI, but the car still feels like it pulls the same as it did before installing the intercooler, I am not sure about the exact drop in temperature, but im sure that if i can get a chance to do a little bit of tuning and such with Stephen on one of these weekends that i can get all of the info that you guys are after... and for the opening where the license plate bracket should be, the small plastic piece is still there, i havent had time to cut it out yet

the car looks super clean. The intercooler I got is just a mishimoto (total measurement) 28x6x2.5. I did not want to cut the bumper support, but not running alot of boost either. I believe the bov is a maroon tial in the picture, bov I would say is still a must.

looks real nice, let us know how much boost is loss versus the performance you gained from this. vq30denx i dont think this will help you much cause i can still kick your a$$,lol.

Werd, it's right where the driver's side bumper light would go. I think I see it in the pics you posted. What size pulley you running also? If you normally see 10psi, i'm guessing it is the 3.25" pulley. I have a 3" charge pipe and it gets insanely hot since it is so close to the radiator. Did he use any welds while doing this or is everything done via couplers? 8psi kinda discourages me. That isn't too far off from stock SC setup. .

the bov is welded in, and everything else is done with couplers, and yes it is right behind the drivers side bumper light, if you look in the engine bay behind the headlight you can see the bov, im running a 3.125 pulley for right now, i might switch to the 3.0 just to compensate for the loss in pressure

let me know if the video works or not, my roommate hosted it on his computer and then deleted it so, if this doesnt work then ill just go downstairs and film another one, the video doesnt really do the bov justice since his camera couldnt pick up the full sound of the bov, but you can ask anyone thats heard it at wot, its pretty loud at times

Yeah, video worked. Sounds good. I'd make one of my ssqv but only sounds good on the move. At what psi does an intercooler setup keeps steady charge all the way through to the TB? I don't want to get hit with a bunch of stickies, just a simple number. You know off hand?

i dont remember the exact cost of everything but i would probably say somewhere between $500-650 depending on where you get the bov, 3in piping and the intercooler.. but then again, prices can vary for every setup, it just depends on what parts you decide to use
