Turbo max in Mexico (Mexicali, Baja actually)

Turbo max in Mexico (Mexicali, Baja actually)

Well guys first of all I want to thank all the org for being there when I was in the middle of nowhere, I could solve a lot of mysteries (newbie ness) with your help. I cannot start without mention my soul-friends Pablo & Elías that were there all the long process to convert a VQ30DE into a VQ30DET, my girlfriend (my expert auto race driver ), my family and the shops that watched the Maximal becoming the Boosted Maximal: “Roger Racing Works”, “Guzman’s shop” (my homeboy Pablo’s house), “Ojeda Muffler Shop”, and “Cesar’s autostereos”.

Ok now with the project; a little bit more than a year ago we (the rckrew: Pablo, Elías & Me) started to figure out how hard would be to put some boost in the max (cause it was the only crew car without boost on it the other 2 are: 98’ Mitsu GSX & 85’ Nissan z31), then I did a lot of research on the org, made up a turbo parts list, saved some money, bought corky bell’s Maximum Boost, bought the parts (slow process = student/part time job), and then 10 months or so later… bam! We got everything we needed to start. And after almost 2 weeks of hard work it was all done and I don’t get tired of thanking my homeboy Pablo who broke his **** during this project with hard working 12 hours a day (all the piping is custom and we were totally newbies on the turbo charging field), by the way wunfastmax member of the org saved our a**es with that link to “racing solutions” http://store.racing-solutions.org great quality bends at great prices, b/c here in Mexicali would be impossible to get some good bends, almost all uses crush bent machines.

Another thing is that we ran on a tight budget, why did I say “ran” we do that all the time hehe, and I now that you can’t mix empty pockets with forced induction, but hey… VIVA MEXICO!!! We love the Mexican way, besides we all 3 are students with part time jobs so the rule: you get what you paid don’t apply here, I understand that we’re playing with matches and gasoline buying the basic components from ebay like the Chinese turbo (www.made-in-china.com), wastegate and bov clones, but one of the primary goals of this project were to put the right stuff in the right places, and it worked just fine.

Things to point out:
Budget $1,500
No labor fees
Custom piping

Set-up:
1999 auto max 116k miles at .35 bar = 5.2 psi untuned
T3/t4 .50/.63turbine A/R chinese turbo
HKS 50mm clone wastegate (.25 bar = 3.62 psi spring)
Greddy type RS clone BOV
Ebay intercooler 27”x5.5”x2.5”
Vortech FMU (10:1 disk)
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
Blitz dual turbo timer (also boost gauge)
Manual boost controller
Reverse y pipe style turbo feed pipe
Custom 3” down pipe
Custom 2.5” exhaust
Dynomax superturbo muffler
US intake manifold
Stock fpr
Stock injectors
Drop resistor mod
Hayden tranny cooler
All the hardware and fittings are Gates even the couplers (charter hose)

So after all, I’ll post some pics of the in the making of, well some things I would like to add to this topic are: please don’t recall on the body details that I already know I have (I got this car 2 ½ years ago repaired from a collision for $4,000 with 79k miles on it so I know all the details since then, oh and sorry for all the dust accumulated on the engine bay, is very dusty around here), and the other one, please save offensive comments, I respect all your opinions, and all the advices are welcome.

That is - so amazing.... You and your buds have done one heck of a fine job of creating a monster car in a tough place - not to mention dusty...

I've lived in New Mexico - Socorro - while in college, so I'm kinda familiar with the winds and fine sand dust. I remember seeing cars coming in from the highways with the paint gone and windows frosted from the blowing sand, in the spring.. And the 6-foot tumbleweeds in the spring....

If you've run that well with an automatic, you need to look into the shift_fast and Clutch_ON mods for an automatic - look in the All Motor forum for details. You can do much better with an automatic and a turbo....

nice job man; I used to go to that race track, but a little too busy these days; I cross to Mexicali quite often, but I rarely bring my car (Ruby red 02 Altima w/ VQ35DET); maybe my buddies and I could meet you guys at the race track and have some fun .

Well, I went to a new track here. I ran 9.7 in the 1/8 at 79.3MPH, didnt get a 60' reading. I notice you have a t3t4. With mine I get some lag, i dont show any boost untill 3k, and full boost almost at 4k. its a T04B, .60ar compressor and .69ar turbine.
