Ports on a external waste gate

Ok im wonering what the two ports on a external wastegate are? I have a hks 40mm wastegate and it has one on the side and one on top. When I hooked up my turbo i used just the one on the side and did not use the one on top! Whats the one on the top for. Now looking at my greddy profec e01 boost controller its telling me to hook the power valve up to the one on the top but Im thinking if you put boost pressure to the one on top the wasgate will not open. Also does anyone here have a E-01 boost controller? Im wondering how well they work and some things you can do with them. Im reading the manual but not quiet undrerstanding everything about them!

On my Turbonetics gate they set it up to run a vacuum signal to it for opening while cruising to reduce back pressure but without some sort of relief check valve i don't recommend hooking it up like that. I'm pretty sure that's what the manual said but its been quite a while since I've read it.

Yeah I rember you telling me that! My greddy profec e01 manual say to hook the power valve to the top port but I dont want it to cause the dam thing not to open!

I think with an electric boost controller it would probably work out alright. Problems really happen when you just run a vacuum line right to it for it to open while cruising.
