Critique my turbo set-up

Hey guys, I'm just making a thread so I can consolidate all of my turbo questions.

***Starred items I still have to buy***

TRANSMISSION:
Spec Stage 3 #SN443 $313*
Amsoil 5 quarts 75W-90

TURBO:
Some turbo (Forward Y-pipe towards battery)*
Tial 38mm Wastegate*
Some bov (trade for Mondo)*
FMIC*

EXHAUST:
Turbo will be placed towards the battery
2.5" #1 Catback
XSPerformance Headers
3.0" Downpipe*

FUEL:
SAFC 2 (just for low boost EU will be later on)
Cartech FMU
Wideband*
Injectors*
Aerometer AFPR with guage
Walbro Fuel pump*

Here's my current setup, I'll edit it as I fill in the blanks.

Can you guys make suggestions and critique the parts I intend to use?

Main questions for now:

1. I plan on using a T3 turbo, but simply for the fact most turbo max's seem to use these. I read in the stickies that a .58AR turbine T3 spools very quickly and this is good. I want to reach full boost (eventually 12lbs maybe) relatively quickly. For now I will run low boost (6-8lbs) because of my stock injectors and lack of EU. Which turbo would you suggest with this in mind?

2. I have a 2.5" exhaust right now. I plan on eventually having 3", but that is not happening for the initial turbo setup. What size downpipe would you guys use knowing that it has to bolt onto the stock cat?

Why? I realize that some members feel you can get away with this at very low boost levels, but why add risk, especially when you know you'll be upgrading later? I say hold off on installing the setup long enough to pick up a set of 370's, they aren't even THAT expensive.

You need to tell us just how quickly you want it to spool up. You also have to keep in mind that if you get a turbo that spools up too quickly, it can run out of breath at higher RPM's. So, give us some additional details and we'll go from there.

I think a 2.5" cat-back will be fine initially, and as far as a downpipe goes I would personally go 3.0". With a turbo setup I would want to be running a test pipe, but if you must have a cat I would go with a 3.0" high-flow unit or something.

Just my $.02. Fill us in a little more. Other members will be able to critique better than I can

I think your trying to say you want a t3/t4, I would highly advise not running a small turbine housing like that(on a t3) unless you want to have wheel spin everytime you want to get on it. I personally run a t4 61mm turbo, with a small turbine housing and can hit full boost at 4100(9.5psi) in 3rd gear. I have had a t3 gt35r, but used a 1.06 a/r housing, it still spooled a little quicker than the t4 even though it had a different design of feedpiping. The car has had very good accleration, and pulls like a demon up top too. Then again there are different t3/t4 combos ranging from 375 or so hp up to 720hp.

Another option youy can do is run a manual or electric cut out, that way u can keep the 2.5 exhaust as a daily thing with low boost and open her up on higher boost. Manual cut outs are cheap.

Injectors - a must, I hadn't really thought of that

Edit: Just thought of this, is there an all around size injector that I can use for low boost, but can also not max out for high boost? Like 4XXcc's or something? Will this require EU to control the injectors (currently I have SAFC)?

Turbo - I've been talking to my buddy about which size turbo and he had suggested a t4 60 trim. Also, the downpipe will be 3" for sure now that I've talked to others about this.

Do any of you guys have one of these laying around? I'm looking to do a more or less budget turbo setup initially and upgrade as I see fit.

Thank you all for the quick replies, I've been wicked busy lately at work and have been crashing every night.

For fuel, an FMU and stock injectors will be fine for less than 300whp...probably 250-275. It will have you running fairly high fuel pressure probably 80-90 psi. Beyond that you might want to look into using stock 370cc injectors or a mid 400cc injector along with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and the FMU with a smaller disk or an SAFC to fine tune.

My suggestion on fuel and engine management is that unless you are capable of installing and tuning something like and E-manage or don't mind paying the money for a reputable shop (who has done this on a maxima before or has alot of expeirence with nissan's) to install and tune the car I would try and keep things as simple as possible. Things like using stock injectors with an FMU or just slightly larger injectors with an AFPR and an SAFC will allow you stock ECU to still controll everything keeping things simple but still gettting enough fuel. The down side to keeping it simple is that you will be llimited on the power you can make because of timing control. I see alot of maxima guys who want to go with complicated engine management systems and large fuel injectors to make big power but when it comes to installing and tuning everything they dont' really know what they are doing and don't want to pay a shop to do it. Then they end up with a poor runing car and bugs they can't work out. I would suggest just keeping it simple

As long as the EU install is just like an SAFC, but with more wires, I don't see why I can't do it.

I do understand where you're coming from though.
