New S/C max on the road

After 6 long months and countless issues with a supposed perfect car (for backstory, read http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....05#post6226905) my 98 is finally on the road. Holding off on the boost until I get a few miles on the clutch.

V1 T-trim w/3.25 pulley
Matty's mounting plate
3" piping
MEVI - mild porting - Still needs to be hooked up.
370cc injectors
Z32 MAF
Cattman Headers - Coated at Performance Coatings
Apexi WS catback
Fastcat
Cartech FMU (for now)
AEM AFPR
Walborro fuel pump
Quiafe diff
Clutchnet yellow pressure plate w/fiber carbon disc (asked to be set for at least 350 ft/lbs torque)
filled motor mounts
B&M shifter
Innovate XD-16 wideband
Prosport EGT, Boost, Oil pressure, and fuel pressure gauges

I have an emanage ultimate I will be installing once it warms up a bit here. I also have the inside fuel pressure gauge and oil pressure gauge to install.

Future plans... Hook up MEVI, correct BOV vacuum line location, Clean up wiring, get piping coated, replace intake piping to S/C. Drive it like I stole it.

Pics...

The only way to install headers...

Very nice headers and VERY NICE PLATE KIT !!!

Few questions:

You think a street disk will be enough clutch for all that power ?? I like the 6pck Sprung hub for all that power.

Your BOV needs a vaccum source...You have it connected to the charge pipe and it wont open when you close the throttle. You will eventually ruin your blower with it like that.

Is that a Vortech Oil sprayer in your blower ?? How do you have your drain setup ?? These are both very important connections casue the blower has to get just enough Oil spray on the bearings and drain it fast enough. Looks like your drain is far forward

A: I drove Iansw's car with the 6 puck and it was a tad too heavy for my liking. I talked with Clutchnet a few times about the clutch and they were pushing the Kevlar or 6 puck, but I decided to take a chance on this one. I asked them to build it to hold 350 ft/lbs of torque, and I'm hoping to be right around 300hp, torque is almost always lower on S/C Maximas, probably around 280, which leaves me a little bit of room to account for drivetrain loss. I don't plan on racing, I just wanted to nice, quick daily driver. If the disc won't hold, I'll have to step it up.

B: Thanks for the tip, I'll move the line to a vacuum source before I start boosting.

C: The pictures where the oil inlet/outlet are clearly shown for the blower was when I was just test fitting the blower. I have re-clocked it so that the drain is on the bottom, with a clear shot down and no kinks in the drain line. I bought the blower used from a guy who was using it on a mustang, and I changed out the oil squirter for one with an AN fitting. Blower sounds good and there is no excess oil in the charge pipe (already checked). Thanks for the concern though!

Thanks for the compliments. This build has been 6 months in the making, due to a variety of issues.

Looks good Matt, after following all of your fixes on the other site its nice to see it all got done. She will surely be a fun dd. One question though, what prompted you to go with the MEVI as opposed to the 00VI (ok 2, what kind of coating is on the MEVI)?

At this point, ideally I would have gone for the 00VI, but that is just the way the cards fell. Due to all the work the car needed, my plans changed so many times it wasn't even funny. I attempted to purchase a 00VI a few times, but was too late to the party each time. I played around with doing a 3.5 swap for a little while, but repair cost ate that idea up. I finally went with the MEVI due to convienience and cost. If this motor goes for any reason, I'll be switching to a 3.5.

Once I got the MEVI I wanted to get it cermachromed at Performance Coatings, but again, repair cost ate up my budget. Instead, I applied around 4 coats of VHT high temp white to the entire outside of the manifold. I then masked off the lower portion, and applied a wrinkle black coating to the upper. I did the white in an effort to keep the manifold as cool as possible, it is an old hot rod trick. Does it work? I have no way of doing a before and after, but after driving around for 45 minutes, I can put my hand on top of the manifold and not get burned. I may go for the cermachrome later, but for now its functional and looks good.

I'm going to try to come out to one of the get togethers soon. Depends on work mostly, I'm teaching a couple of classes and have to travel to Quebec next month. My wife is due in May, so that's gonna be keeping me busy too!

General question about Superchargers

Which is the best blower for the maxima? the v1 or the v2? I was lookin at the v1 t-trim, very nice, I looked around the forums but there are a lot of pages to go through and google doesn't give me much of an answer. Any suggestions as to which is best performance and maintenance wise? thanks to all that reply.

Depends on your taste. The V1 is a louder blower then the V2 and will produce about 1psi less than the V2 along boost points. The V2's are nice and quiet. V1-T-Trim is a VERY loud blower. If you like that, then go right ahead. They also make a V2-T-Trim which is quieter but still loud. If your starting a kit, then you might wanna stick with an S-Trim for starters since the T-Trim is a monster.

Maintance is the same all around for any Vortech Blower.

v2 t-trim?

Thanks matty for helping me out. I wasn't planning on installing the blower until I buy another car. Don't really want to put good parts on an everyday driver but I do plan on keepin my maxima and hooking it up to the max. I'm just going to buy the parts and once I have everything i want then i'll install them all in one shot so that way everything is clean instead of having a nice shiny blower with everything else looking rusty. I do plan on buying one of your supercharger plates off you once I get the cash. I went to the vortech website but i didn't see the v2 t-trim. I saw the e-trim but i think it only says that one produces 480hp or something like that. Where did u find the v2 t-trim? I don't mind the noise, just makes the car sound meaner if u ask me. Anyway, if u have a link to the v2 t-trim i would appreciate it. thanks.

KiLLaMaX98-I'm no expert on it, but I would suggest you look into the Si-trim too. The upgrade is much cheaper than the T-trim and it is more efficient too.

Holy crap did you say your wife is due in May? My wife is too. Grats bro.

BTW, at some point I want to get together and listen to your car with the headers on it, as I need ideas if you know what I mean.

Thanks Sarin, anytime on the exhaust. Mine is fairly quite with the Apexi WS exhaust, but the headers deffinetly add some decibles to the equation. I still haven't really gotten on it, I only have about 250 miles on the clutch so far.

I boosted for the first time today. Took it over to the freeway, and hit somewhere around 8+ psi (3.25 pulley) in 3rd and 4th gear, never got close to redline. AFR started around 12.5-.7 and gradually dropped down to 10.5. I need to play around with the Cartech FMU some more. It was hard keeping an eye on all the gauges at once, lol. Fuel pressure, boost pressure, EGT's, AFR, water temp, RPM, and speedo! No detonation that I could tell, felt strong, I'm sure it will get better with some tuning, and I don't have the MEVI hooked up yet. I at least feel safe getting on it now.

This summer the Cartech will be coming out and an Emanage Ultimate going in, already have it, just waiting on the weather to improve.

I also through some new kicks on...

Enkei RPM2's, 17X8 +35 Hyperblack w/235/45/17 Kuhmo ASX tires. Rims weigh in around 17 lbs. Replace the heavy 18's that came on the car.

The skid plate came welded to the Y-pipe from Cattman. I plan on hitting the dyno, but probably not until I install the emanage this summer.

Let me know when you travel to Qc, I'd like to see your car in person and obviously shake your hand and who know maybe a beer or two.

Props to you for a great set-up.

Nice setup man. I went MEVI for its relative ease.

I have wondered though, is there any need for it to activate at 5,300rpm when SC?

I notice some people just leave theirs open always.

No tune really necessary unless you're running 3.125" pulley or over??? I think.

The supercharger kits FMU and Fuel Pump assist the stock pump with adding more fuel when needed.

If you want higher boost than about 12 psi or so I think you'll need a bigger MAF sensor (commonly off a 300ZX TT) an emanage and bigger injectors.
