3.125" pulley + V1 plate = belt rubbing?
3.125" pulley + V1 plate = belt rubbing?
Hi all - I have a 3.125" pulley with my V2 blower and V1 plate kit. I have a problem where it seems the belt is just slightly rubbing on the front side mounting stalk. It's seems to be slowly over time wearing down the teeth on the belt. I have considered filing down the stalk but I really don't want to modify the plate in any way. I have also considered lowering the boost since blowing my auto transmission and the engine being near on 200,000 km's old.
My question is - what pulley size should I go for?
I'm wondering if the 3.25" pulley (~10 psi) would be just enough to move the belt clear of the mounting stalk or would I need to step down to a 3.33" pulley?
If anyone wants to swap, I also have a 2.87" pulley (~14psi). I'd gladly give it to anyone who wants to step their boost up in exchange for a 3.25" or 3.33" pulley.
Cheers

Are you talking about the center mounting shaft ??
I grounded mine down a bit on one side when I had my 3.125" and when I went to a 2.87" pulley, I totally removed it. Its not a problem to do away with that center shaft.

Not sure which one it is and I should probably take some pics to show you. But I guess it would be that one as it's under the front side of the sc pulley and the belt runs right past it quite closely.
I assume by what you've said, you wouldnt need to modify the plate in any way to fit a 3.25" pulley?
I mean.. how much does an extra pound of boost rob?

No. The way its made, you will have enough clearence with a large pulley. The smaller you go, the closer and closer the belt will get to that center shaft mount.

Even with my trusty V2 plate, I shaved that post slightly when I had the 3.25 pulley, and hacked it off completely when I installed the 2.62 pulley. Now the belts just miss hitting each other!
I was nervous to hack the shaft completely off at first, but I've been trouble free to this day.

You may want to consider going to the 3.25 pulley to save said shaft and your new tranny, but I'd stick with what you have and shave the shaft down but still keep the bolt intact. I bet your old tranny was just tired, and your new tranny will hold just fine. I'm pretty sure I remember you stating that you have the VB mod and a tranny cooler. But, just in case you don't, those are the minimum mods recommended to make your auto tranny last.
Yeah I did have issues with my tranny, but even before the SC was installed I had my suspicions it was on its way out. The gear changes were a little clunky and it felt like it was slipping a little. With 11 psi of boost, it sped that process up somewhat. I'll get it fixed up at the same time I get my VB mod done. I'll make sure the shifts are extra hard for the punishment its going to get.
The blower will have to come off again because I've got another couple of issues too:
#1: Oil leak somewhere around the blower and pulleys (could be bad oil seals??)
#2: Blower needs a service - new bearings and seals
#3: Need to get that shaft shaved
I'll get my local turbo/supercharger specialist to do all this. Whats even better is that the tranny shop and the turbo shop are right next door to each other.
Thanks for your help people (once again).

Sorry to jack your thread but I am going to be installing the 2.87 pulley in a couple of weeks using matty's plate do I need to shave that center stalk or does Matty's kit take care of it??
