Turbo damage? (Pics inside)
hello, before i begin, i am a turbo noob. Im not here to ask how to turbo, or anything like that, because i dont plan on doing so really....so my terminology may be alittle off. But i have acquired a turbo from the .org. i recieved it today, and it looked good (it was supposedly 'new') but its definitely not. Anyways, i look at the blades/fins whatever theyre called and on the compressor side (where the filter goes i think?) the fins are all jagged and screwed up. It looks like something was bouncing around in there and just chewing up the fins b/c theres marks all around the outside walls next to the fins.
1. how detrimental is this to the performance? (will it still perform just not as good?)
2. How much is it to replace the fins (wheel?)
3. How much is a turbo like this worth in its present condition? Im just gonna try to sell it locally. Its supposed to be a Garrett GT3782 .58 ar if that helps.
Thanks all

That blade is toast. You might be able to get a new compressor section for it, but the current one is shot. Who sold that to you? I would be seeking my money back. That is not usable.

Ohhh snap... /seller ban. Did they inspect it and sell it at night time? I think that's a ball bearing, depending on how much you paid it should be worth the rebuild. Then you won't have to worry about it after that.

well, i didnt pay anything per se...i traded a 00vi kit for it. had the turbo been in good shape i thought it would be a good deal, but now im just hoping its worth atleast a 00vi kit at this point.

holy @#$^! damn man. Unfortunately a fan isnt something u can just smooth out with a dremel since it can spin at 120k+ rpm it's balancing is crucial to its survival. That's going to need replacing. However, I must agree with maxgrt2000- this turbo is worth rebuilding.

I was wrong, it is a journal bearing, I did see a new center section for around $400 but it could possbly be rebuilt with a new compressor wheel for slightly cheaper, but not much less than just swapping the center section.

idk....i have people saying its worth it to rebuild it. then on another forum the guys are like "its not worth it." lol. so im confused now...
on a side note, i guess im not really ticked off that i got the turbo in this condition, but at the same time the seller keeps saying its a new turbo,(how can it be new if its jacked up and used????) and that i shouldve read the thread, lol. when in the thread he specifically states its a new turbo and theres two pictures in there of the turbo, but they are laid to the side so u cant see the wheel. sneaky sneaky

yeah, it was one of ur teammates that gave this to me. i wish he woulda told me it was like this before he gave it to me, but no biggie, if he wanted to be sneaky like that then whatever.
