To me, at idle it sounds the same as the super turbo, and when cruising may even be quiter. Even at WOT its not too bad, nothing like my cutout setup was.
Im very happy with it so far, thanks streetz for recommending this muffler.
cool man, glad you like it. Im happy with it, although its my third one lol. Did u get the lower discplacemnt one(-4.0L)?

Retrofitting a throttle body? Just get one of the faster electric cutouts and a boost switch to open it up any time you go above X PSI. Could probably also rig a delay circuit so it doesn't close back up until 5s after boost cuts so it's not trying to close between gears if you're letting off.

This is a different ordeal for streetz since he's a RMT and it's just turbo > muffler > out. You will still gain with a 3" cutout 18" or so out of the turbo compared to a full 3" exhaust and this muffler running to the back of the car.

I definetly need to do something about my Superturbo. That thing is a peice of junk. I called them and they said with a 3" exhaust you need to run two mufflers since one will not last. Why make a 3" muffler that doesnt last when its connected to a 3" exhaust. Doesnt make sense.

While were on mufflers, anyone try a "Hooker Aero Chamber" ??

Yeah the first one was the -4.0L and that thing was opening at just idle lol, the second one was a +4.0L which was fine at first, but then started rattling when closed, so now this current one seems to be fine, actually i think its the 4th lol i had another one rattle as well after doing some 2-step at 1500rpm it started rattling, it didn't like the sudden pressure of pipe bombs going off lol, but I think that one was actually outside of the muffler not inside, something from the car touching it, so its probably fine. still got 3 free mufflers lol.

Matty, I can sell you the previous VT muffler I had on for cheap, I didnt weld it or anything it is just as it came in the box, I doubt it will rattle or anything on your car, my exhaust flows alot considering I have zero restriction (no cat, no resonators, nada), except the turbos blades. On a car with slower idle flow it should def bee nice and quiet with no rattle, and you can also call Dynomax and tell them its making noise, they'll send you a new one no questions asked, they'll just schedule to have ur current one picked up, no receipt needed or anything.

Mine works just fine, I really like it. Sounds really nice and deep when just cruising and when WOT it gets louder but since its at the back of the car the noise level is nowhere near as great as the cutout was.

in my opinion, VQ's flow a good amount, more than most 3.5's probably, and with TC or SC even more, with that said, id recommend the 4.0L version, that way the valve wont be opening while very light load or idle.

a little off topic, but I just got a dynamax superturbo muffler installed and low it, it's not a straight through design but it's very quiet!

I had a Superturbo, well still do but not on the car. I liked how it sounded as well, but didnt like its design.
My car pulls much smoother with this setup, very similiar to as when i had the cutout open back when I had one.

I personally don't think the design of a muffler makes much of a difference in a na car with 180hp so I dont mind.

the power increase wont be as much as a FI car, however freeing up the exhaust is always a good thing, almost everyone makes more power with a cutout open and free flowing exhaust, dyno and track proven for vq's even NA.

Ok guys, I was referred over here from the Cattman Thread. I have a 4 A/T, Cattman headers, Cat converter, Cattman 3" catback and muffler.

Being a 4 A/T, driving around I'm stuck in the 2-2.5k drone. So, in your opinions, will the Dynomax Vt take care of this issue? Will it sound louder (than cattman exhaust) during acceleration?

Any help in this matter would help, that drone is driving me crazy. Thanks

Stock quiet? What about acceleration noise?

Another question...Is there a resonator exhaust tailpipe that can be put on this? one that is a dualtip setup?

Acceleration on mine is kinda loud, when im slightly accelerating it sounds like a WRX because the valve is flapping making that suby sound. cruising is quiet

Aftermarket isnt going to be as quiet as stock, especially a 3" setup.
Why not just have a larger resonator put on?

Same here, the bubbly exhaust tone at low acceleration is kind of cool sounding, since its not what a Maxima normally sounds like,

Just cant bring myself to chop up the beautifully made cattman catback...

I was thinking a 5" setup would fit on my 5.5gen. Know where I can look for one?

Bubbly sounds interesting. I'll be happy as long as the drone is put to rest (or muzzled). I imagine what you mean by bubbly would be something like when you let off the accelerator totally and the exhaust makes some sputtering noises??

No sputtering, its just as streetz mentioned "because the valve is flapping "

Are there any other mufflers with a similar (valve/spring) design, other than this and OEM??

Thanks, don't know how I missed that one...The VT is probably the best option but I'm still afraid it'll be a little too loud since my wife goes nuts with any drone (had a flowmaster once, not good for the relationship lol)...

Other than the VT, with under 250hp, the Super Turbo or OEM valved muffler may be the other options though I don't know how much more if any, the Super Turbo outflows the OEM dual tips...

Not to get OT...thanks Streetz...

I wrote it all wrong. I meant, 5" resonator to place at the tail pipe, would that help some with noice levels? Do they make something like that or is it a figment of my imagination....

Pulled the trigger on the 17957 (+4L). Ordered a Dynatech Cone insert as well just for added measure.

Hopefully the valve will open somewhat with my NA 3.5L...LOL

I'll be picking up the <4.0L soon...I actually want to try one out on my other car, a little '93 Altima but I'm worried that the spring will still be too strong...The Altima (2.4L) is only putting down about 150whp (auto with bolt ons) and I wonder if even the 'under 4.0L' would work properly.

I'm still running an '02 max muffer I bought off a member here years ago but it's rattling (2nd one to do this) and I'm debating on what to do now without going back to a stock muffler...

EDIT: Any reviews from the NA crowd on this muffler?? Any problem w/the valve rattling? My Max muffler is falling apart and driving me nuts! Even thinking about a G35 muffler which probably flows the same...

I'm sure the 93 Altima will have no problem opening up the less than 4.0L model. I'm positive that Dynomax would have been very conservative on the amount of exhaust pressure required to open the plate for the less than 4.0L model, in order to account for all types of setups under 4.0L, even a Geo Metro

I just ordered the +4.0L model for my 94 Prelude VTEC, which is all-motor, increased compression, big cams, big header, etc. I'm making 220whp and I have no doubt I'll have no problem even opening up the plate. I guess we'll see though.

Yeah the spring on these mufflers are pretty weak, at idle mine flaps open.
