Ford Mustang Cobra 39# Injectors

I was recently informed by another .org member that I could use the 2003 Mustang Cobra injectors in my car. These are rated at 39#, or ~410cc.

These can be had for less than $300 new, with the plugs.

The question is, will these definitely work in my 2002?

It seems that they have a 12-14 ohm resistance, so I'm guessing they're saturated?

I'm pretty sure my stock injectors are peak and hold. Could I use a saturated injector in a car that originally had peak and hold injectors? I know that you shouldn't do it the other way around.

Also, will these physically fit in my fuel rail?

Thanks.

From my research, SR20DEN swore up and down that '03 Cobra injectors worked on the VQ30DE-K's and VQ35's. I think the only modifications necessary are wiring in the right clips and shimming the fuel rail with a couple additional plastic washers with longer bolts...

Here's a thread that mentions using them:

I can't believe there isn't more information on this because the cost would be amazing and I want a set for my 00VI; SC 2.87". I've seen the little snips of info mentioning the cobra injectors but never found more info and now it's time for injectors so I'm going to search for more info.

While looking for info I found sets selling for $100 on forums.
PM'ed SR20DEN for more info on these injectors.

Post your findings back here.

Also, can your 3.0 ECU run peak and hold injectors without burning the drivers?

Can my 3.5 ECU properly run saturated injectors?

I would pm this guy also SouthFlMaxTech

"you know what else fits.. I put 2003 ford mustang injectors in my 3.5 swap with my turbo on it.. I got a set of used ones for 80$ for 8 of them the only difference is that they are taller so you have to shim the fuel rail and get longer bolts.. I used 3 of the black plastic washers at each hole vs one so 12 total and it worked great you just have to make sure that they are high impedence!!! "

i believe that the diff btwn both is the resistance, and you can use them as long as they are high resistance. usually the low res(peak and hold) are available at higher flow, and many people install driver mods to run them, ie hondas, buicks, etc... when power levels demand it

So this confirms that they do physically fit the fuel rail with the help of a washer or two.

The Cobra injectors are high resistance (saturated), the same as the stock 99 and older injectors. This explains why they work in 3.5 swaps that still use the 99 or older ECU.

Now the only question left is:

Can you run high resistance injectors on an ECU that normally runs peak and hold injectors (low resistance), like the 2002 and up?

I know that it would not break anything to try, but I'm wondering if the drivers in my ECU would be able to supply the current needed to open the injectors properly...

NEW DISCOVERY.

The information in this thread is WRONG. The stock injectors in my 2002 Maxima are HIGH IMPEDANCE (SATURATED) injectors.

This means that the only difference between the 2000+ injectors and the pre-2000 injectors is the feed location (2000+ use top feeds).

This also means that the Cobra injectors should work perfectly. I will buy these and post back here (probably in a couple of weeks)

Thanks for all your help.

all nissan injectors are high impedence injectors. that's very common knowledge (at least I thought it was and it should be, though apparently some people have posted incorrect info in a few threads. otherwise you wouldn't be able to swap injectors around between VQ30s and VQ35s like all of us have done).

cobra injectors will work fine after you get them seated in to the rail and IM properly (which may or may not require O ring size changes - I don't know what size O rings cobra injectors have, and will require shimming of the rail). Also you'll have to wire in new harnesses because the injector harnesses are not the same I believe.

I was going by this guy who appears to be knowledgeable. Oh well, everyone makes mistakes.

I will probably make a small write up when I do this.

This is great info, thanks everyone. Now I need to find a set.

According to this info: http://webcache.googleusercontent.co...ient=firefox-a

The connector is USCAR and the body style is EV6.

About $25 shipped on ebay for 6 of them with pig tails.

Or you can make your own: http://www.painlessperformance.com/w...rchField=60131

Guess we won't know if the o-rings need to be changed until we try to put them in.

Unklejoe any updates?

BTW lowest new price http://www.buyfordracing.com/shop/pr..._id=728cPath=9

That's about $31 per new injector. Anyone interested in a groupbuy?

Thanks, I did. Keeping my fingers crossed. That forum moves really fast. Do you mind sharing how much you paid for your set and did you get them cleaned/tested?
