Beware of ACT Xtreme PP

Ive been running an ACT Xtreme pressure plate with the street disc, I daily drive the turbo car so I needed something that held the power and had nice engagement. Ive been running it for at least 2 years and love how it feels, pedal stiffness doesn't bother me but the heavy PP has ended up breaking quite a few things. Just putting it out there for others who are currently running this PP or were planning to run one.

Here is the issues I had in order of them occurring:

-possible premature wear on master/slave or just because the non-oem ones are crap
-cracked the fork where it meets the pivot ball so replaced fork
-cracked the housing of the throw out bearing, just replaced it with another and reinforced the fork so that does not break again
-cracked the clutch pedal assembly in two spots, welded it back together and welded other weak points
-today I ripped the top bracket of the clutch assembly off the firewall so I welded it more securely on
-today I also noticed two hairline cracks in the pedal assembly so I welded those up

thats the backside of the bracket under the cowl

LOL, I had all of those very same problems with my rps clutch with a extreme psi plate.

That thing broke two trannys and one clutch pedel cause it never gave, slipped anything. Now I have a act 6puck with a hd psi plate, the rps with rated for 470-480tq and the act for around 430tq more than enough for me and feels alot better on my leg.

fyi, I seem welded the entire clutch pedal assembly and mounting tab on the firewall added some bracing to make sure this never happened again.

Hahahaha. Never ended up braking a trans because the clutch, just shredding 3rd gear b/c torque, this one has some give since its a street disk. I did seam weld the pedal assembly today, wanted to brace it some but I got work early tomorrow Couldn't find the pic of the fork but I welded/boxed it out so that thing is never gonna break lol

jeez that's a lot of issues. I've got an ACT XTreme PP sitting in the garage in case I ever need it, but I hope I don't.

wow! That's crazy, sorry to see this. I was loving my clutch setup on my car (at the 373/374 power level). Stock FW with ACT HD and a 6-puck sprung disc. Best of luck getting it all back together!

Yea it is a lot of issues lol, was getting pretty fed up with it. Just didn't want to junk it just yet since Ive wasted enough money on cluthes, had an Exedy Stage 1, Spec Stage 2, Clutchnet sprung 6 puck and then finally this ACT Xtreme SS. Might as well get some use out of this one haha. I liked the Clutchnet clutch but the disc ended up falling part, next clutch will probably be 95BLKMAX's, ACT HD w/ sprung 6 Puck.

Hey if you want to see what that clutch setup feels like before you get it stop by that is whats in the max right now

fyi, the only time it slipped was when I took off my 2.5inch exhaust to make a 3inch and was running a open down pipe then made a 2-3 wot pass and hit 17psi it scared the crap out of me, thought I blew the motor but it lasted a whole two months after that

yea man the xt pp is insane stiff. I dont know how you that had it actually drove the car DD with that thing, it's ridiculous. The HD plate is a perfect balance between clamping force and streetability IMO, and also the 6-puck disk worked awesome, grip every time, even after heated from back to back runs, never slipped. Hardly any chatter, and the little chatter I ever experienced with it, was when it was cold. By a few blocks away from driving of on a cold engine, it was fine. Best of all, CONSISTENT ENGAGEMENT! Cold, heated, or w/e, it was always on point.

If only I could get one for my BMW I would lol. But they dont make products for BMWs lol

car had about 150k, and it was daily driven, was my only car, the only thing i had issues with was blowing the rubber lines to the slave. drove the car with xt pp and street disc for over 3 yrs actually, i wen straight to that combo after hitting over 6 psi, then i had the xt w 6 puck sprung for about 3 months then sold the car. I have to say, i hated the chatter of the 6 puck

So is ACT a good clutch to go with in the future ? What flywheel should it matched up with ?

I had an ACT in the past and just got so sick of the chatter so I had to take it out. I currently have a Clutchnet and its decent. Still get some chatter at random times though

I would just stick with a stock flywheel, how much power are you making? On a SC you could probably go with an ACT HD and a street disc, going with the full disc you shouldn't have any chatter.
