Options on SC setup
Options on SC setup
Ive had my sc setup for sale and while its gotten alot of hits, there has been no interest in it. I was wondering with what I have now, what do I have to do to install it without having to upgrade the injectors, install a EMU, etc.? I want to try for at least a very basic set up that I can enjoy with out the hassles of all this other stuff I bought. I might as well see what is possible since its just in my garage collecting dust. Sorry if I didnt search, but I tried and the search is not coming up with as many threads as before. Did that change too? Anyway, heres my FS thread so you have a better idea of what I have.

if you want a basic setup then go back up to a 10 PSI pulley (3.25") and ditch the 5:1 FMU for an 8:1 and get a CAI with decent filter. The basic kit is a bolt on and you dont have to do worry about all that bells and whistles like EU, injectors etc.. getting a boost gauge is a good idea too
install is easy. throw fuel pump in, slap plate and blower on, run the belt, hook up charge pipe, hook up fmu air/fuel lines. 1 step colder plugs and fire it up
step by step how to of install is on VQpower, its called SCIFD
judgin by the trans cooler you're an auto, and if you plan on having real fun with the car on daily bases, better start gathering 5 spd swap parts right now.

I was wondering why it hadn't sold either. But it did take me a few months to piece everything together so I would assume not very many people have that kind of money right off the bat. I was deployed so I didn't spend much money. Especially for an older car like ours most wouldn't want to spend that much.
I'm glad you didn't sell it. No reason to repost since you have the info already to get started so here's a little motivational speech. I had the same plan at first, moderate boost without the bells and whistles. I put my sc on and then due to unfortunate circumstances I had to take it off and let it sit while I got myself together and now I'm trying again only now I bought most of the bells and whistles.
You have to remember at the heart of the sc kit it's a easy bolt on, then work your way slowly from there. It only gets more fun later. Good luck and feel free to ask any questions.

I agree with what Mike said (post #2) .
A lot of people fail or don't follow through because they try and bite off more than they can chew. Start small, install the kit as closely as Stillen intended, and enjoy it for a few months. Then take small steps (one mod at a time) and start climbing the hp ladder.
If you have all the primary components on the Stillen parts list, you're good to go. You'll see that bigger injectors, a method of tuning etc etc are not on Stillen's parts list.

ok so I checked out the FMU and from what I got, I think I have a 6:1 FMU? Is that about right?
You suggested an 8:1 FMU. Would it be easier to get a new one, or get one of those recalibration kits? Also is the 8:1 good to use on a 3.33 pulley?

Cool to see your keeping your kit atxking, on alittle side note how much would a 00-01 with 10-11 psi out down on a dyno?
I glanced though youtube and street fire for some dyno vids but most guys post their numbers without any details of their car or some post just a dyno video with no details at all?

i just hooked up my boost gauge yesterday and it's making 11 psi... vortech v2 wwith v1 plate, obx 8:1 fmu/walbro/apexi neo/obx v'2's with cattman rear section, stock injectors,pf tb,swirl valve delete. The car made just over 300 with a slipping auto in it and now has an exedy stage 2 and stillen flywheel so im curious to see if the 5 speed swap made a few more ponies, for not having injectors it's running pretty rich too and needs too be leaned out a little bit more.

Either way id be curious to see a dyno with the 5spd aswell , do it up !
which gauge did you buy? Ive been looking at prosport but read some bad reviews on the Subi forums.. but theres alot of good reviews aswell
Yea it's v's old max,I'm going to dyno it but unfortunatly the clutch is slipping under boost, i have to order a new one, just not sure which one i want to go with yet but after that's done im gonna re-tune it on the dyno with a snow stage 1 water/meth kit i just ordered so im hoping for anywhere in the 330-350 range. as for the gauge i had a auto-meter phantom boost gauge laying around so i just tossed it in the ash tray for now.

yeah the search on here SUCKS they f'n change it and idk why , and reading the thread , seem like everyone one wants to change the to a 5speed . so are ya'll saying with that SC and a good tune it wont be as fast if he had a stick ?
tranny will blow from the torque unless it is build up. cheaper to swap a 5spd, get a performance clutch and enjoy the added fun to drive.
Ok. Instead of makin a new thread in bumping my old one up.
I FINNALLY installed my s/c this past weekend. And the power is awesome. I did a v2 s/c with a 3.33 pulley. Shift kit, and the rest was the basic bolt on kit. My question is how would I go about getting it tuned? Is that something I can do myself with a safc or go to a shop and get it dyno tuned? I'm a little strapped for cash at the moment and was asking because I don't want to drive around too long without a tune if that's what I need to do soon. Hope I'm making sense. If not I'll try to clarify.

yeah, the hard part was the installation of the shift kit. That was one of the main reasons I was selling it. But I just kept reading and re-reading the install instructions until I was comfortable taking out the valve body.
. I had to either install it or sell it for under my asking price because not many people have 1600 to spend right up front. anyways heres a pic, its not great and was taken right after I finished the install.
