ok so i talked it over with my friends , and my buddy in philly. I decide i wanted to turbo the max. Im not looking for crazy HP numbers, but i rather have the driveability of it. Im only looking to make atleast 350whp.. This is still in the making so stay tuned. enjoy the pictures

Subscribed to this thread. Turbo builds are always fun so enjoy it.

1 Questions though.
What psi spring is in the Tial Mv-s wastegate?

Also you mentioned that the 600cc injectors are big. In reality they are not since that is what I am using and they are great since they provide a little bit of a safety net. Having them paired up with the Walbro 255lph pump, you will be fine.

Also in regards to engine management, I suggest in using Uprev since it is possible to do so on the 6th gen ecu. Much better option then using some kind of air/fuel controller.

maximusberg 03-29-2012 03:33 PM

wastegate came with 3 or 4 different springs, i believe 5.8psi, 8.4psi, and a 12psi....
ill most likely be using the 8.4psi

as far as tuning options, i got a safc2 and im gonna be using uprev as well. a place in PA called, RT TUNING will be doing this... they specialize in NISSAN's

Shift_Max 03-29-2012 03:50 PM

+1 for RT Tuning. They are great with Uprev.

Looks fun! All those new parts make me want to spend money but I'm broke...off to buy a happy meal lol...

SWEET!!! Another turbo Maxima around here!!!! We about to join Unklejoe!!!!

streetzlegend 03-29-2012 07:59 PM

Nice looking build. Love seeing new turbo maxis

Unklejoe 03-29-2012 10:47 PM

Nice. Finally some more local turbo Maximas.

Is Tom doing all the piping fab work?

And I think you will make more than 350whp on an 8.4 spring.

McSteve 03-30-2012 12:20 AM

i didn't know megan made maxima headers... are they for the 3.5 altimas or how did you find them?

yeah, actually sitting here thinking about it, you should make more than 350whp on 8.4PSI spring. Depends on what dyno. But basically all of them if you ask me....cant wait to see this. Yo, we need to start a TURBO MAXIMA club!!!!

RAZ76 03-30-2012 04:14 AM

Nice build dude.

t6378tp 03-30-2012 05:01 AM

I am thinking around 375hp and 400+ with the dp open

yes, 8.4 psi im thinking id be about 390whp

they are SER headers for the altima. For the 6thgen maxima 6spd's they are a direct bolt up.

I don't know...call me crazy but I think you'll be more than that. I think you'll be past 400whp depending on the tune, but that is possible. Unklejoe made like 374whp on a dyno that reads lower than a dynojet with 7.5PSI. I believe he used stock exhaust manifold. and have a 2.5" exhaust and downpipe I believe. You going in with HEADERS, 3" downpipe and exhaust and ~1 more PSI.....I think you'll be over 400whp. If you dyno on a dynojet you will for sure be over 400whp.

Yeah pretty much.

I have one stock manifold in the rear with a custom header in the front.

I have a 2.5" downpipe/exhaust with the wastegate dumping to atmosphere.

It is important to dump the wastegate to atmosphere if you plan on running a smaller exhaust.

My setup still has a LOT of back pressure though. I had to run a 14lb spring in my wastegate just to get it to hold 7psi because the exhaust pressure was actually pushing the wastegate open.

This is also probably because the E-Bay wastegate's springs aren't exactly what they say they are; they're a little softer I would imagine.

If I could do it all again, I would do a minimum of a 3" down pipe, maybe even a 3.5" with the wastegate re-circulating.

And as far as dyno numbers, they can vary from dyno to dyno so it's more useful to just compare to other cars on the same dyno.

Also, I'm running 18 degrees of timing with a 11.8 AFR.

i hope im not 400whp.... id end up blowing my engine, i dont wanna do that

I was told by HAL at Dynosty that if you have a good tune on a VQ35DE that you can do 430-450whp no problem. It's all how the power is made. You can make 430whp and make 380ft-lbs of torque......or you can make 450whp and make 440ft-lbs of torque which would put more strain on the internals. Notice how the new 3.&L VQs make power when they are turboed STOCK BLOCKS...make about 500whp and then about 380ft-lbs torque...FLAT all through rpm band which is really nice!! AND those rods are alot more beefier than our VQ35DE rods. So don't really worry about the power too much its really the torque that is going to have an effect on things. I don't think that RT Tuning will let you down. If they feel that you should turn boost down then they will tell you.

I'm looking at your pics and it looks like your mocking up the exhaust piping on a vq30 with a 5spd tranny correct me if I'm wrong. I know the 6spd tranny starter is in a different location than the 5spd so you might want to get a 6spd tranny and starter and put it on there

one step ahead of you, got a mock starter to put where a 6spd starter would go. Plus the feed and downpipe will only be tack welded till it test fitted on the car at that point if everything clears then final welding will be done.

Good luck with the build. Looks good so far. :D

You have to be careful with the stainless because it tends to crack at the welds
