What rims would you get if you were me?
What rims would you get if you were me?
I just bought a 97 Maxima GXE and it has those stock hubcaps. I have $900, and I really want to get some 17" rims that aren't too expensive but still look fairly nice and aren't too heavy. I like the more simple, star shaped rims. I am a newbie so I am hoping someone can help me out. I am also planning on lowering my car. Wouldn't I also need new tires if I wanted 17" rims? Sorry I really am new to all of this.
This is exactly what my Maxima looks like right now, the color, wheels, everything:

So yeah, I have a lot of work to do. Feel free to suggest things I should work on.

Which of the two styles of rims (the specials $499) do you like found here at this site ? Are these going to be descent rims and wheels?

I personally like these ones which are selling for $599.

Couple of questions real quick. How difficult is it to remove and put on your own rims with the tires? Also, does anyone know if wheelmax.com is reliable and all?

Thanks for any input.

Some advice if you will. Be mindful offset and weight when purchasing wheelsets. Make sure they fit your generation else you'll be rubbing in the wheelwells and or your speedometer will be off.
Better consult the experts or a local store at least to figure out a wheel/tire combo. Not all wheels will be available in the right sizes or configurations to be suitable for your car. You have to get something with the correct bolt pattern (5x114.3mm aka 5x4.5" in this case), diameter (of course), appropriate width for the tire size you want or need to have, and most importantly an acceptable offset (sorry, I don't know about 4th Gens).
It's not as simple as picking out one of those packages put together by some stores, so you should get more advice or at least do some reading over at www.tirerack.com or try out their wheel selector tool, which will also suggest a tire size as well. Good luck.
PS: "Inexpensive" and "light" don't often go together, but try looking around.
