Plastic film on stock alloys, damage therof

Anybody with those "14-odd-hole" flat-face stock alloys notice that the wheels have a thin clear plastic film on the flat front surface? I noticed it, alright, when some Castrol wheel cleaner lifted the film in an ugly bulge. The cleaner didn't even warn a guy to test in a small area. I followed the directions, Pa, honest! Now, I'm left with a crinkled wheel. Rats. Anybody else ever suffer this, or peel off the film? Huh? Huh?

That's the clear coat coming off. Nothing you can do except refinishing the wheels which is not very economical on OEM wheels.
