i prefer something like nitto or the new falken st115. the yokohamas are to loud and wear out to quick if you drive aggresivelly. I wear throught tires pretty quick living in houston b/c of the constant heat but maybe you drive nice. If so then what is the point of having a performance tire

I went with Michelin Pilot A/S. Heard some good things about them, and they are supposed to be better in snow and bad weather than most other tires. So far no problems and they handle great. Waiting for some snow in the next couple months to see if they are as good as advertised. Overall I think they are great (just a bit pricey).

Have you looked at Kumho's Ecsta MX?
I got them about a month ago and so far I have no complaints. I went a little bigger then OEM, 245/45-17 on Mile Miglia MM-S Sport, and they are great!

I got the Continental ContiExtreme because the I was slipping a lot with the original Bridgestones. I was told by my mechanic that the Michelin's Pilot Sport A/S, first choice, wear out in 15-20k miles. He said they are great tires if you are willing to pay the high cost for them. The Conti's are a little louder and rougher than the Bridgestone's but they handle soo much better in the rain (my opinion). I used to hydroplane at 50 with the Bridgestone's where now I can go 65 and I am fine. I am waiting to try them out in the snow. I ended up going with the 235/45R17 tires and so far I have 8K miles on them.

Hope that helps...

I have Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on my stock SE rims. So far I have over 60K miles on them and I am about to replace them (ie. close to the wear bars). I am very impressed with the wear life, traction in the dry, the rain, and the snow. I have no problem with them and would recommend them. My research so far shows that Discount Tires sells them for $198/ea, no tax, plus free shipment. Costco will mount and balance them for $10/ea tire. Also, Costco sells these tires for $209.99/ea plus tax, with free mount and balance. There is also an instant rebate of $60 if you buy a set of 4 Michelin tires at Costco. Either way, both comes close in overall cost.

I have these on my wheels right now. Around 5k miles + on them. They're a decent tire and pretty cheap. Great in the rain and very good dry handling. Not loud at all, but seem to wear quicker of course that could just be my lead foot. I recommend them for the price plus they look pretty aggressive.

BTW $111/ea is a great price, I paid $136/ea about six months ago.

Any of you guys know what brand of tire came stock for a 2000 GLE? I have Michelin Energy tires on my max now(29,000 miles). I was just wondering if the previous owner bought new tires or not...

I have Pilot Sport A/S also. They are AMAZING!! They make the car so much more responsive and the grip is like a german virgin "GOODANTIGHT" (No offense to any germans) BUT the very best part is that they handle just as well in the rain. That is where you really get your moneys worth!! I got mine from Sams club for $209.00 a tire and $13.00 for mounting, balancing, ROAD HAZARD, and tire rotation is all included for that price. If there is a draw back from getting the tires from Sams, it's only that they have to be special ordered so you have to plan a week ahead of time. Good Luck.
