Best Rim width to get?

i see slammed95 going around saying get 8" or wider. What makes 8" so much better than the rest besides larger surface to hold ground? or is that the benefit? Whats the recommended width that u recommend going for?

What size wheel/tire are you running?

235/45/17? 7.5, 8
235/40/18? 8, 8.5

while we are at the subject. i need someone to tell me what each number means when u mention a tire size.

lets say 235/35-19

19 is the radius, is 235 the width of the tire that is in contact with the ground? if so then what is 35?

also whats the difference between 235/35-19 and 245/35-19 ??

I'd go with 8.0 or wider personally, because i want more with on tires for better handling.. I have 245/40/19 on a 7.5 wide inch rim only cuz thats the rim i liked and thats as wide as they sold them, if not i would of gotten wider.

From what i've read on Tirerack, the wheel width also dictates how wide your tire will look.

Something along the lines of, a 245 on a 7.5 will look just as wide as 235 on an 8 (not exact figures but you get the idea)
