No. For a 3rd Gen you definitely want the +38mm. +30 to 35 would be even better...

What tire size were you thinking of to go with these? I'm not 100% sure what the widths are like on 18" tires, but you're probably going to be looking at 225/xx, maybe 235/xx sizes at the most.

Hey, you're from Vancouver! Hi!

thanks! what i did actually was called a guy from volco tires and he said that 38 and 42 would both fit.. so turns out i guess both oh you guys are right =)... yah im thinking most likely go with 225.. i mean 235 would fit just fine too.. but with 225.. they aren't as wide so less possiblity that there would be any rub.. haha yah.. im from the 604 area.. richmond to be more exact! what gen max do u have?? maybe i've seen it around =p

7.5" is pretty thin for a rim. The OEM, I believe is 7", so it's only .5" wider. I also believe that the OEM offset is 45mm. If you do the calculation, anywhere between 38 and 42 mm offset is good, but if you dont want the wheels to stick out by 4mm, then you should get 42mm.

BTW, I have a 2002 and if you have other generations, the numbers might be slightly different but not far off.

There's quite a bit of difference between the 3rd Gen and the 5th Gen actually, and fitment can be pretty tight sometimes so exactly what specifications you're suggesting can be critical. I appreciate that you're trying to help him out limsandy, but if you're not totally sure about what you are saying I would be more cautious about offering advice like this...

3rd Gen wheels are 6.5" wide for the SE models, and offset is +35mm, not the +45mm of the 5th Gens.

Trust me, you want the +38mm. I've seen a few online sites suggest the typical +40-something fitments, but fitment guides printed up in some book have been wrong before.

I think you'll have to stick with 225/40-18 tires. According to the tire calc this is a tad under diameter (1.6%) but it's better than going over size to 225/45, and on 7.5" wheels you CAN'T mount 235/40 tires which would have been a closer diameter match (I did some quick research for you at the Tire Rack). It's probably better to go with the narrower 225 anyway as this will give you a bit more insurance room around the tire since the offset is going to be slightly too high. It's unfortunate, but it's not that easy to fit wide tires on 3rd Gens and fitments can get very close...

If you've seen a stock looking silver SE, that's probably me. I think I've seen a black 89-91 SE around now and again. See my sig and profile:

yah thanks guys... and bman is right.. the oem wheels on the 3rd gen are 6.5"... i wouldn't go as far to say that 7.5" is 'thin' for an 18" rim.. i think thats just fine.. an extra inch on a 3rd gen will probably match up to the edge of the body which is what i want.. yah im guessing 225 is probably best.. 235 is what is recommended at most sites but 225 probably is my safest bet.. i'll keep my eyes peeled for u bman! appreciate all the help!

oh by the way.. bman.. u kno anywhere i might be able to pick up some 92-94 rear tailights, panel and grill? black trim.. i like the look better.. and i wanna make a mesh grill for the front =p

Nope, you can try phoning around to all the import junk yards, but they'll most likely only have the chrome-trimmed GXE tails if they have them at all. 3rd Gens aren't as numerous up here as they are in the US, and SEs are even rarer. Good luck though.
