?? about wheel width and offset

I have never had aftermarket wheels on either of the two Maximas I've owned, so I had a question about wheels and offset.

Someone mentioned to me about Mustang wheels fitting a 3rd gen max (Jeff92SE has some I think) but I didn't know if you have to look for a certain offset or wheel width.

I found some 17x9 Mustang wheels with a 24mm offset, but that seems too wide to fit under my max and I keep seeing where most max owners have wheels with 40mm offests.

Any help would be appreciated. I am still in the early stages of figuring out what I want and I would like to get as much knowledge as possible before making a dumb decision.

thanks,

Chris

Okay, short answer for the biggie sized 235/45-17 tires: 7.5" to 8" wide. Any offset +30 to +35.

The Mustang wheels that Jeff has and on Craig B's page are all 17x8 and are either +32 or +30, still not sure on that. The 17x9 wheels you saw are the Cobra R wheels which won't fit, as said.

You can play with the offsets and widths a little bit if you don't have to have 235 and don't mind narrower tires... Wheels in the +30-35 range aren't as common as +40-ish wheels.

The Cobra R rims "might" fit but it will be so close, it won't be funny. 9" is pretty wide. I run 8" rims with 245s and they will rub the fender. I plan on going to 235s when I have to buy new tires.

The conbination of the 9" rim and the 24mm offset will really make it stick out. Now that I think about it, it won't fit. The 24mm offset itself isn't too bad, it's only 6mm more than my 30mm ish rims I use now.

Oh man, and here I was thinking you were somehow running those 245's perfectly fine and happy as a clam all this time.

I guess 235 still really is as wide as you can go....

All I have to do is grind 2-5 mm out of the rear fender wells and it would work perfect. The rubbing is very, very slight and only during hard turns or if I have 3-4 people in the back and I go over a hard turn. The very slight grinding would solve everything.

You mean grinding off some of the rear fender itself or just the plastic liner? I guess this isn't something a baseball bat would help with....

Inner fender. You could roll it if you wanted. There's no liner in the rear.
