tire comparison

I know this has been discussed many times, so I apologize for the repetition. I am looking to upgrade the tires on my 03 GLE. The standard Touranzas are size 215/55-17. I am looking at either the Continental ContiExtreme Contact or the Pirelli P Zero Nero M&S. The closest size, to my stock tires, is 225/45-17 in both brands. My questions are: could I use this size(225/45-17) on the factory GLE rims and does anyone have any experience with either tire? The Pirelli's are rated a little better on Tire Rack, but I have never owned a set of either Pirelli or Continental tires, so any information would be appreciated.
