Rims and Offset..

I am buying 18s for my 4th gen and was wondering if someone could explain to me what "offset" is The car will probably be lowered 1.7 and 1.6 inches...

Also I am getting Some rims off of Wheelmax.com Anybody have good/bad experience with em? And are the Exel brand wheels any good? they are priced rather nicely and they look really good....well some of em....

yea i would like to know what the wheel offset is also and what is it for our cars?
