What size tires for 18x8.5

ADR M-Sport 18x8.5 with +35mm offset.

What size tires should I get??

I have 235/40/18 on there now and my lip sticks out further than the tire.. The road feels really harsh and the road noise is very apparent. I've also done a good job dinging up my rims with hardly any rubber on them..

I'm thinking I might go to 255/45/18. Would that be too big? That's a dramatic jump from 235/40/18...

I think it's too big. 245/40/18 is the recommended size, but 255/40/18 is also acceptable. If you want more "meat", you might want to go 245/45/18.

I think I want more meat, but it might make it harder to turn and stuff with that wide of a tire (255). Anyone else? Anyone have 18x8.5? If so, what tire size do you run and how does it feel?

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

I've got 255/40/18 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on 18x8.5 Volks. Harder to turn and stuff - NO. I'll stick with this size again if I buy Michelin. The A/S's have a narrow tread for the size, so I may go with Falken 512's next time, but in 245/40. Remember different tires in the same size will put more tread on the ground. Oh, do not use 255/45. wayyyy........too tall.
Use this to see why.

I have Kumho Escta Supra 712s now. Lots of road noise, but killer handling, esp. in wet conditions. If I get new tires soon, it will be mostly through summer, so I don't care so much about wet handling.

I just want something a little softer than the lack of tire I have now.. :\

After looking at sizes with that tire calc tool, I've concluded 255/40/18 would be best for my 18x8.5s. I want to get slightly taller and a good bit wider tires, and that does it. It will be .78" wider and .6" taller than my current 235/40/18s.

Would a 255/40/19 fit a 19x8 inch wheel? Im shopping for tires and theres many more in that size than 245/40 and it would be nice to have a lil more tire I suppose.

Maxcosity, weigh those bad boys before you apply the rubber. I heard they were 30+lbs for the 18
