Offset?

I know that our offset should be in the 35mm-40mm range. I just wanted to know that if the number is smaller, does it mean it is more inside the wheel well and if the number is larger it is more outside, or the opposite way? I was looking to buy some 18x7.5 size rims but the offset is 45mm...

the higher the offset the more the wheels will be tucked under the car......... so a 45 will sit 5 mm further under the car that a 40.... ect ect

So do you think an 18x7.5 rim with a 45 offset will fit on my car. I am going to run them with 235/40 rubber?

You'll be able to use those wheels with no problem, Andy.
