New tires, Which should I buy: Falken Ziex Ze-512 or BF Goodrich Traction T/A?
No matter which I get, I will have Sears do a Price-Match, and shipping will be about $35 per set on top of the prices listed. In both cases, the size is 215-60-15, and they will he H-Rated tires. They will be mounted on 15 x 7 BBS rims w/ a weight of 13-14 lb. each. I am doing a 15" rim for lighter weight, beter ride, and improved comfort. I want a tire that will still give me good handling and response without breaking the bank. I have it narrowed down to 2 choices, as far as I can tell. I was set on the Traction T/A, but recent reviews of the Falken 512 has me re-thinking- especially based on price!
The only bad thing about dropping from my 225-50-16 to the 215-60-15 is that I lose overn an inch of contact patch. I am @ 8.5 on the Sumitomos, and the Falkens are 6.7" while the Traction T/A do not have a listing.
I can get the Traction T/A (H-Rated) for about $62 each ($248). The weight is 24.7 lb in this size. They are a fairly new tire with good ratings and recommendations. These tires are directional, and are all-season. I have winter tires, so that is not a big deal, but I thought it worthy of mention. Their tread pattern looks to be fairly good, and what I have heard about them is favorable so far. They are 25.2" in diameter.
Falken Ziex Ze-512 are $44 each ($176) and have good ratings. The weight is 21.3 lb in this size. THIS THREAD regarding the Falken tires seems to speak favorably about them. They are 25" in diameter. The Ziex have a lip designed to protect the rims from damage. The tread claims to be uni-directional, but from looking at it, I would assume that it was, indeed, directional.
So what do you guys think? Let me have it with opinions...
