Has anyone ever tried mounting 245/45/17 tires?

I'm just curious, has anyone ever mounted 245/45/17 tires on their maxima. I have 235/45/17 now but they're not wide enough (Pirelli PZero Nero M+S) the rim sticks out a little. If someone ever tried them, did you have any rubbing issues?

Thanks guys

245? Dude that is one wide tire. I jumped on to tirerack for a second and the widest wheel that they have is 8.5 inches with a recommended tire width of 235. Not exactly what you're looking for by just my $.02. Good luck with it though!

Actually the only time I recall anyone having those is with a buddy that had a BMW 5 series and paired the 245's with 265's in the back. That is some sick width

Well I have Mille Miglia Evo5 rims 17x8, according to Pirreli, 245 can fit perfetcly on the 8: wide rims. My issue is it going to rub on the fenderwell since it's wider than my 235/45/17 that I have now. BTW 265 seem awfully BIG for a Maxima.

Some people have 235s on their stock wheel (5th gen). You can surely run 245s on 8"

As you can see, it seems just the right size. That's about the limit for the front, but the back could use a 275 or 285.
What offset do you have?

Yeah, you shouldn't have any problems at all with a 245/45.

245 will be fine, like you i'm running 235's on an 8" wide rim and the rim is sticking out a little beyond the tire... too late to go back now, maybe when my PZero's go bald i can go wider.

Thanks guys, this has been very helpful. What about performance issue? Has any one ever experienced sluggishness from wider, bigger tires, therefore heavier, more rotational mass. Any thought on that? My first though would be for the car to be a bit slower off the launch.

It's hard to say, i had 18" with Sumitomo HTR+ 225/50 prior to this. Now with 17" (lighter) and 235/45 PZero's, the car actually feels peppier in stop/go driving.

Hmm, maybe my plan to run 245/50/16's isn't quite so crazy...

BTW I called Pirrelli and found out the Pirelli PZero Nero M + S that I have right now in 235/45/17 weigh 26lbs. 245/45/17 - 28lbs. I didn't get a chance to call Dunlop to ask about the weight of the SP5000 I had before, just to compare them.

Maybe we should get a tire weight listing here. Thoughts?

I'm running 245/45/17 and had no problams with them. I have them mounted on 17/8" rims. No rubbing at all

I guess from the psotings here the rubbing wouldn't be an issue but I am concerned about putting on heavier tires. 2lbs per wheel should have some impact on accelerating.

Anybody know of a lighter all season tire. Maybe then I would consider changing my tires.

Sounds like there shouldn't be any rubbing issues on a 4th gen with 245's and springs. Anyone have a 5th gen with 245's and lowering springs?

Seba2k2, you said you had 245's on 8" wheels with a 40mm offset; are you on the stock suspension?

Nupe, looks like you had some Mustang rims. What offset do they have? Why'd you go to the 235's if the 245's didn't rub?

BTW, anyone know the weight of the 5.5th gen factory alloy 17" wheels (GLE or SE)? Any extra weight of bigger tires could be partially offset with lighter wheels.

Thanks for any input anyone may have.

Tire Weight for 245/45's

Called Discount Tire Direct today and here are some weights:

Continental ExtremeContact 245/45-18 = 25 lbs

Conti ExtremeContact 245/45-17 = 25 lbs
Falken ZX-512 245/45-17 = 25 lbs

I also went to Bridgestone's website and they were showing 30-33 lbs for these sizes (in various performance ratings). So there can be a wide range of weights even in a similar size/type.

Some have them (Bridgestone, Toyo), most do not (Falken, Conti, Goodyear, Michelin, etc.)....

How do you like your P-Zero Nero M+S tires? I want them so badly (in 235/45-17), but they're sold out until late July. Not sure if I'm willing to wait that long!
