What r the best tires for my se

I have the stock 5 star se rims for my 97 max se and I recently replaced the tires with pep boys brand (futura) tires. Yeah yeah I know I was trying to save a buck... Anyway they look too big for the wheels
(it looks like my rims are floating in the middle of the tire) In other words they look alot less sporty than the goodyears that they replaced. Does anyone know what are the best inexpensive tires I can use that will complement my 16's

any cheap tires from wal-mart will work for u...

or you can get the following Z-rated tires for cheap price at tirerack.com:

kumho ecsta supra 712 - ultra high summer performance tire

happyricefob (or anyone else), any experience with the kumho ecsta supra 712? or anyone with personal experience on Falken Ziex ZE-512, opinions would be great!

At $80-84 a piece, i'm definitely looking at these

I think I know what you are talking about. They may just be too wide for your wheel.
What does it say on the side of the tires?
stock is 215/55-R16

I would go with the Falken 512's over the Kuhmo's

they are the correct size but they just dont compliment the wheels. I might just skip the new tires and get some 18's and use the stocks for the winter and recommedations for a nice pair of 18s

I too am looking into some new tires for my '98 SE, and I also have the 16" 5-spokes. I'm also looking for something reasonably priced. Here's what I've narrowed it down to since I've read good reviews on both tires ...

215/55/16
Continental TouringContact CH-95
Dunlop SP Sport A2

What do you guys suggest?

yes, they will work.
225/50-16's would probably not move the speedometer too much.

I have the SP2's. They are a decent tire for the money. The traction is just ok. Tires are definitely something you get what you pay for. I'll be going back to Bridgestone Potenzas as soon as these wear out(can't come soon enough).

especially since he live in Mass. they are pretty good in the snow for "ultra high performance" all season tires.

tires

I just got some michelin hydroedges and i love them. I know they are not "high preformance" tires but they feel like it.They grip extremely well in the rain as well as in dry weather. They also have a 60,000 mile warranty and a agressive tread design. They work well for me and have proved to be worth their $.

I got some Potenza RE950's. They're only H-rated tires, but I dont really need to go more than that. So they keep my speed in check

On top of that, they grip so damn well. Not to shabby in the snow either.

I just bought my Maxima and the people I got it from had Bridgestone Turanzas on it. It was an old couple so I guess it makes sense. The only problem is they are practically brand new so it will be a while before I can justify replacing them with something sportier. But anyway, to my eye those Turanzas look way to big around the SE 5 spoke wheel.

I have the continental, got them from Discount tire. they are a great tire, but i was told they don't make them anymore. (got a puncture in one) so now i have 3 continetals and 1 Khumo. the ride is the same. but like someone said you get what you pay for. just my 2cents

The problem you might be having is the tire "section width". We should all be reading the "section width" and "tread width" details on the tires - the 225mm/45% etc is a nice guide but if you look at different brands of tires a 225 tire might be 7.2 inches wide at the tread, while another will be 7.6 inches. You can see the same within the same tire just by jumping from 45 profile to 50 profile. Same with section width which is wider than the tread. Details can be found at tirerack.com and edgeracing.com.

Here is a sample:
http://www.edgeracing.com/tire/766/

I believe the 225/45 numbers to be a guide, like the treadwear number, but not a point of accuracy.

I believe more accurate sizing numbers are in the section width and tread width provided on each tire.
(Note that they have a measuring rim width which is the width rim they made the measurements on)

I mean, if you are just wanting some tires to last you....get some sears' specials. That is what came with my car when I got it, and I have already put like 30K on them with not that much wear showing. They are Gardsman or something like that.

Also, check www.tires.com. They have free shipping on everything. They also carry Falken, which is the best performance street tire, IMO. (Falken Azenis RS)
