Tread life for Falken 512 or any other tire
Tread life for Falken 512 or any other tire
I, like alot of folks here, am looking for a replacement to the 4 death donuts that are currently on my 2002 max. The Falkens have gotten a ton of good reviews here but im wondering how long they are expected to last with normal driving. I dont drive super aggressively and have gotten 51,000 out of my stock Potenzas.
Has anyone here put 30,000 on their Falkens?
If Falkens wont log 30,000, can anyone recommend an inexpensive tire that I can expect 40-50,000 out of?
Thanks

512's havent been out that long. but they should last bet. 30k-40k as long as you rotote them on a regulare basis. 1st Its the best tire for the price, the Mitchelans may last longer but there twice the price. 2nd 55 and lower series tires almost never come with a rating of over 30k, its rare. So just buy the 512's
I have been thinking about the 512's when the time comes but I'm not impressed with that type of longevity. A lot of people slam the stock Goodyear Eagle RSA's that I'm still running (53,000 miles), but I should be able to get at least 62,500 miles out of 2 of them and probably 67,500 plus out of the other two. I will probably buy all 4 at the same time.
Any recommendations for tires that will last that long or longer?

Yea, Im leaning towards the Flakens but my list of cantidates is as follows:
Falken 512
Toyo Proxes 4
Hankook HRII
Nitto 555 or 450
Kumho KHII
All are pretty similar price wise. Although from a treadlife standpoint, Id be interested in hearing from those that have knowledge as to which will last the longest.
I like the Falkens because they can be bought from Sears and their local servicing is a benefit. I have, however, heard some poor experiences based on issues where the tire was not round and very difficult to balance.
Thanks

Keep in mind the Falken have two different mileage rating. 55 series and below 30k; 60 series and above are 50k or 60k. These are a performance tire not a touring tire. Most org members buy these because they are a great tire for our 5 gens.

I did not know that. How do you know which is which? After just speaking with the person at Sears ($115 per not including mounting/stem and tax) he said it was a 30k tire.
They make a 512 in a 60 series?

My stock Goodyear RSA's are 60 series. So if I went with the Falken 512s it seems the price for a 60,000 mile tire is quite reasonable. I thought I read that some people over inflate the tires slightly to compensate for a softer sidewall.
Does anyone have experience with that?

I called Falken. They do not make a 60 series 512 for 02 se stock rims (225/50/17.) I cant speak for any other size. The only 512 for that size is a 30k tire.
The Toyo dealer here said that they had a toyo that was a 60k tire. Does anyone else know of an inexpensive high mileage tire in a 225/50/17?
Thanks

I just bought Falken's 512 For My Maxima, I only have 20K on my Stock Potenza's But i am changing them, I hate these potenza Tires, they suck.. i also bought 512 for my civic.. i think the water wet/ snow slush and over all performance for that price is awesome, 90$ for max's 40 for civic, cheap tires and really good performance, treadlight is crap tho.
