I need some new tires on my 02 Maxima SE. What kind do you guys recommend with out paying a fortune and where did you get them? Thanks.

I was looking at these, all in size 235/45-17. All were 'ok' price, but I dont know what your definition of 'fortune' is.

A bit smaller fortune: Bridgestone Turanza LS-Vs. Softer and quieter than the Pilots...almost equal grip. I sold my Pilots to install the Turanzas

Falken Ziex 512...just got my second set.
You can get them in stock 225/50/17, but they are sometimes hard to find in that size. I just put 235/45/17 on mine, but frankly I prefer the 225's for handling (though the 235's look so nice and wide)....

You can get them at Sears, Merchant's, etc....I paid $400 for my latest set (Because of small production runs on the 225's, they actually cost MORE than the 235's - about $450 for a set)

I'd recommend the Pirelli PZero Nero M+S but that danged tire has been on backorder for months and won't be in stock until November

Dont forget about Kumho.

just bought the Falkens today paid a little more cuz i got it aligned, but so far i have 2 miles on them and its great

I'm sick of hearing so much contact with the road and wet/snow traction needs to be improved. Of course, im running factory crapenzas with maybe 60k miles on them! I'm steppin down to grand touring tires for a better ride. I LOVE the way the car performs with Aquatreds perform on my girls Altima. Of course they dont come in 17's. But I don't tear up the road like an idiot (most i've done is 130). Not in NY where its all stop-n-go with enough cops it feels like Baghdad. I think the feel of the car will change dramatically. I'll post in a few weeks once i change

What kind of mileage did you get out of the Falkens? Their warrenty says 30k miles.

Do you want summer or all-season? If summer is your desire Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's will satisfy that desire. They are $92 on TireRack for 235/45/17. They are sticky as **** and don't let the the cheapness scare you away from the company. Kumho is proving itself on the track and GRM is loving and supporting them all the way. I'm currently on my second batch. But if your gonna change you might as well go to the 245's if that possible on 5th gens.

I have the Bridgestone RE-950s...they handle excellent in the rain, but they're a little noisy in everyday driving

Agreed on Kumhos for summer tires.
I'm enjoying my Nankang NS-1 tires. They're free.
In reality, Nankangs are $300 installed for 17". Nothing wrong with mine after 10,000. Just keep them inflated.
