I'm finnally getting rid of the deathtrap Potenzas this saturday. I don't know why I still have them after 43,000 miles. It has come to the point where I won't drive in the rain anymore. Do I run them at the same 32 PSI as my stocks(17in), or a little higher. Im hopeing these are better in the snow than the Potenzas

 

hmmm, I got the Falken 512's after the Potenza's, they are about the same. The Falken's do ride a bit better, but handling is still crappy on them. I have no idea about the snow grip, I'm in Southern Cali.

 

You will enjoy them in the rain...rock solid. They are decent in the snow, much better than potenzas.....but not "great" just "ok"

as to pressures, I run them at 34 front and 31 rear (I generally don't have people in the back seat) and up the pressure to 34/33 if I am going on a road trip with people/luggage/etc....

 

Wow, this really surprises me, I figured good weather traction would be improved. This really effects my decision when it comes time to change. Who knows, both might be better than the Coopers I have on now.

 

I've had the Falken's for over a year now. THEY ROCK!
My only complaint is that the sidewalls could be a tad more stiff.
Wet traction is VERY good. Slush and snow traction is OK for an all season tire. I've even autocrossed on the Falkens. They are a HUGE improvement over OEM in every respect except stiffness.

Don't listen to the critics. It's true that the Falkens will not make your car handle like a sports car, what do you expect people?
They do what they are supposed to. They provide a very nice mix of performance, comfort, and all season grip. When I wear my current set out, I will buy another.

I think bostonmax was more interested in the all-season performance. Unlike you SoCal guys, we on the east coast have to deal with rain, ice, and snow frequently - so we don't mind giving up a little dry performance for more rain/snow grip

I'm on my second set of 512's now and can honestly say that it is THE best rain tire I've ever owned (And I've owned at least 12-15 sets of all-season tires over the years). I actually ENJOY driving in heavy rainstorms and they hydroplane only in the biggest of puddles (as any tire would)

As to dry grip, It's obviously not going to be as good as a "summer" or "track" tire, but I have never broken the tires loose on dry surfaces. Yes, as stated above they are not super-stiff - in fact they are slightly softer than the RE92's, but that leads to good ride quality in my opinion.

Snow grip....they're about as good as you can do without true snow tires (that said, they are "ok" in the snow as I said above"....No A/S tires are GREAT in the snow, that's why there are snow tires.

Overall, I think they are a great tire for the price....I would get the Pilot Sport A/S except they cost twice as much!!!! The only complaint I have with the 512's is that they are not the quietest tire, especially when worn down....but that's what a radio is for....

You could say they have "decent" snow grip though: this pic was taken going 45mph up a mountain....I do alot of snow driving to go skiing

Around $100 each on average. I have about 10k miles on mine and they are a HUGE improvement over the Pretendza's no matter how you look at it. Dry traction, wet traction, snow...not even in the same class as the original equipment.

 

Absolutely man.... I know how you feel.... I'm looking for a good deal on the Falken 512's myself... esp since the VA/DC area authorities aren't too good at dealing with snowy conditions on the roads....

I know what you mean, I used to live in Fairfax country for 8 years. It seemed like everytime time it snowed or iced, people would go into a panic. I'd rather deal with that then the freezing weather up in mass

 

I dunno man... I went to college in Ann Arbor, MI and I love the cold and everything, but I thought a snowy/icey freeway would kill me sometime... when I moved here... I realized that a stupid driver can kill ya any day in any weather... and I'm sure you would agree with me that there are many stupid drivers out here, esp in the rain and snow....

 

512's are great tire and im not being biased because i work for falken, for the money there is no company that can match it. Only problem now is keeping them instock since that consumer report came out that seems like its the only tire we sell...go figure...

Anyone here w/ vibration issues with these tires? I noticed several people mentioning this problem in other Falken 512 threads.

Hopefully it was just a balancing issue with those people and truly not the fault of the tire.

 

DONT GET THEM THEY SUCK!!!..YOKOHAMA or TOYOS ONLY!!! TRUST ME TIRES DIDNT LAST ME A YEAR...one poped the first month i had when i was goin 120...on top of that they ride like ****. **** A FALKEN!!!!!!!!!
