Re: Z or H rated Tires

What is better... Kuhmo Supra Ecsta 712 rated Z... Nankang NS2 rated H... or Ultra brand Goodyear tires rated H with treadware rating of 380AA...

Need to get some new tires!

I don't like Nitto 450s...

wrong forum>>>>>>>>

Michelin pilot sport PS2 Y rated , no other tire can touch it. They are pricey ($166) 225/45/R17 at tirerack but worth every penny.

Nick.

The H and Z are speed ratings, Z being the higher of the two.

Z rating is softer/sticker compound & rated for higher speeds, H rating is a harder compound & has a lower speed rating. If you do alot of commuting or put alot of miles on your car in short periods of time I suggest buying the H rated tire because they will last alot longer. Or if spending money isn't a big deal for you then go with the Z rated tire, because they are a better performing tire, they just don't last as long. Another thing to factor in is I think Z rated tires are good for speeds up to 160mph. I don't think you maxima will ever see those kinds of top end speeds. Another thing to fathum is the maxima isn't the best handling car in the world, so your not probably not gonna be using the full potential of a Z rated tire. There will be an improvement though so the choice is up to you.

Well said Mike!
Also keep in mind that an H rated tire will ride better then a Z rated tire. Z rated tires tend to have very hard sidewalls for added stability, where as H rated tires are a bit softer in the sidewall.

If you want some cheap, but awesome Z-rated tires, go to www.tires.com and check out the Falken Azenis Sports. They are the stickiest tires I have ever seen, short of drag radials. They are basically drag radials for the street, and they are sweet. I have a 5spd, and can basically not spin at all.....that is how good they grip the road.

Like said above, if you commute more....get some lower speed rated tires.

Those things look like they would not fare well at all as soon as it started raining.
