Tire questions..

Got a couple tire questions.. Currently my car has 215/55/16's. They are toyo's that were on when I bought it.. I'm buying 17" tires and need some advice on sizes. I know how to use the tire calc's, but that's not my question. What advantages would I have with going to the wider tires, like 235/45/17 which seems to be the most popular tire size for 17" around here. Wouldn't it be better to have more sidewall and get a 225/50/17, for a slightly smoother ride? Tirerack recommends 215/50/17..

what kind of info can you experts pass on to me to help make my decision?

235/45/17 has wider tire = more control and traction

tirerack recommends that size prolly cuz the rim your looking at is 7" wide and they dont want it to be too wide.

It depends on what you want out of your car and the tire.... If you drive alot... and are looking for a smooth quiet ride.... you want one tire..... If you drive hard and want the max performance you want another tire.......so what do you want???? for performance I would go with a wider lower profile tire.... but you may need 2 sets depending on where you live... summer...winter.... for daily use under normal driving.. I would go with a All Season tire.... the higher sidewall profile will make the ride softer and protect your wheels.... and for wheels... 7" or 7.5" ok for normal driving.... I would not buy wheels less than 8" wide for performance

They are 8 inch wide rims. What I want out of my car is a nice mix of comfort and performance, but I put comfort over performance and looks. Which is why I went with 17x8 Inch rims instead of 18". 18's look alot better, but I want to keep the smoothness I don't think Toyo makes the proxies in the higher sidewall size.. at least I didn't see it on edgeracing.com. I live in Reno Co. Kansas, and roads are pretty good here, besides the occational out of the way roads. They should be with as much as we pay in taxes!

So with this extra info, what tire would you guys recommend? I really like the sound of the toyo proxies because they are just a good tire and do very well in rain, something my current tires are TERRIBLE at! Hydroplane city
